This is the most personal song I’ve ever released.
I wrote it just days after my dad passed away from cancer. At the time, I never imagined I would share it with anyone. I didn’t even have it in me to record it for 8 years.
His favorite song was “Hey Jude.” We sang it at his funeral. When I sat down at the piano trying to write something that could honor him, “Hey Dad” came out.
Recently, my son has started saying “Hey Dad” whenever he starts talking to me. Every time he says it, I think of my dad.
Today, on his birthday, I’m finally releasing this song.
Losing a parent is one of the hardest things I’ve experienced. If this song connects with even one person going through something similar, then it was worth finally sharing.
The last lines of this song were his very last words to us.
Thank you for listening.
Happy Birthday Dad. This one’s for you. Love you always ❤️🙏
“Hey Dad” is out now on Spotify and everywhere.
