Excited to share our recent pre-print! The Vibrio cholerae encoded Nezha anti-phage system (SIR2-HerA) restricts virulent vibriophages ICP1, ICP2, and ICP3 by depleting NAD (Abi💀). However, an ICP1 isolate can overcome this by encoding putative NAD regenerating proteins! ⚡️
Really excited to share my first preprint as a postdoc! Here, we determined that the BREX-inhibitor, OrbA, encoded by the lytic phage ICP1 inhibits BREX through the ATPase BrxC in V. cholerae.

Story time: when I started my postdoc with @WatersLabMSU in August last year, we aimed to use V. cholerae to understand how genetic interactions, including epistasis and pleiotropy, influences its pathogenesis and evolution. 1/18
@jwmodell lab and I are excited to celebrate #WorldPhageWeek this year with our new preprint, showing how CRISPR-Cas9 systems can respond to phage-encoded anti-CRISPRs and ultimately counterbalance Acr-phage infections! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Latest from the lab! Here we report the discovery of widespread famly of PICIs that just hijacks tails from their helper phages. Amazing collaboration with @epcrocha @doctor_jams @JchenLab. Fantastic work from @Alqurainyn Miguel-Romero & @AlfredFillolcell.com/cell-host-microbe/f…
ALT Postdoc ad - Didychuk lab. We are a new lab in the MB&B Department at Yale University interested in understanding how herpesviruses package their genomes and transcribe their genes. We use a variety of approaches, from structural biology to functional genomics, to address these questions. We are looking for a postdoctoral associate as a new colleague. This position is perfect for virologists interested in expanding into other biophysical/biochemical techniques or biochemists looking to work on a human disease. Reach out for more information about available projects and so we can learn about your science!
Interested? Email Allison (allison.didychuk@yale.edu) your CV, a short description of your research interests, and contact info for 3 references.
The Dep. of Plant & Microbial Biology @ the @UCBerkeley is hiring a Postdoc in the area of #phage-host interactions. They'll conduct research as part of Dr. @KimDSeed’s grant 2 explore how mobile genetic elements contribute 2 phage resistance in V.cholerae buff.ly/3CFbCC0
New release alert: DefenseFinder v1.2.0 is out.
