Awesome. This is how the future gets built.
Congratulations to SpaceX on today’s $75B IPO, the largest ever brought to market. Goldman Sachs is honored to have served as lead left bookrunner on this transaction, but more than that, we are proud of the strong partnership our people have built with the SpaceX team over the long term. I’ve known Elon for more than 15 years, as have several of my colleagues, and it’s been incredible to see his vision come to life and to work with Gwynne, Bret, and the entire team. We are excited as SpaceX enters this new chapter of its journey as a public company, and we look forward to supporting their mission of advancing the frontier of human space exploration.

Globe & Mail reporter Chris Gay told Canadian readers ‘how to properly hate’ @elonmusk for becoming a trillionaire via SpaceX. Here’s an idea: - Maybe Mr Gay could explain to readers why Canadas fed govt lost $50bn betting against Tesla on EVs - and is in the process of losing billions more backing no-launch capacity Telesat to compete with StarLink - SpaceX. Our federal govt is lighting on fire billions we don’t have betting against a guy changing the lives of millions with reusable rockets, global internet, EVs, nueralink, boring company etc. Capitalism creates wealth as markets embrace life-improving goods and services. Which is why our teachers will get an $11bn windfall via their pension betting with Musk. Socialism destroys it through the politics of envy and statist central planning and loss-making ‘investments’ which is why this federal govt is so awful at capital allocation. @globeandmail - pls tell the whole story.
So cool. What a ridiculously cool adventure - creating something the world needs - and sticking to it when rockets failed and contracts fell apart. And then, finally, taking it public and making tens of thousands of people wealthy beyond their wildest dreams. Here’s to Elon Musk and the extraordinary world-changing SpaceX has become - and here’s to the windfall wealth of everyone who believed in and built it every step of the way.

Elon just created 4,400 millionaires in a single day. 400 of them are now worth over $100 million. These aren't VCs. They're SpaceX employees, and the list includes welders, technicians, and cafeteria staff, because for two decades the company paid every level of the workforce in stock instead of higher salaries. Juan Hernandez immigrated from Mexico and took a $28 an hour contractor welding job in 2015. He says he didn't even know what SpaceX was. The company gave him a $10,000 equity grant and let him buy more shares through payroll deductions. That stake is now worth $880,000. Trevor Hise's parents wanted him to take a stable job at General Electric. He picked SpaceX instead, stayed 12 years, and accumulated over 100,000 shares. At the $135 listing price that's $13.5 million. He's 37 and semiretired. His words: "The magnitude of this has been ridiculous." The most telling detail came before the listing. Over 100 employees quietly banded together and negotiated a group wealth management deal covering up to $5 billion, because none of them had ever needed a wealth manager before. Software IPOs have minted millionaires for 30 years. This is the first one where the money went to the factory floor.

Quote of the day
Murderous migrants beheading innocent people in their home town is what’s making people angry, not “social media”!

Energy realism
I had the pleasure of introducing @cenovus CEO Jon McKenzie at the Global Energy Show today, and while the media has focused on his description of Pathways as "unfinanceable", his comments were more nuanced and the whole speech was a banger. My top 🔥 quotes from his speech: /1

So unbelievably great
A 24-year-old Polish tennis player arrived in Paris last week ranked 114th in the world, with no sponsors, no guaranteed income, and no certainty she could even pay for her hotel room. She had to win three qualifying matches just to enter the French Open main draw. Prize money is only paid at the end of the tournament, so a Polish sports drink brand quietly stepped in and covered her hotel bill. Her name is Maja Chwalinska. And today, she plays in the French Open final. Before this tournament, she had won exactly one Grand Slam main draw match in her entire career. She had battled depression so severe that in 2021 she couldn't get out of bed. She underwent knee surgery in 2022. She spent years grinding through small tournaments across Europe just to stay afloat. Then she arrived in Paris, won three qualifiers, and kept winning. Zheng Qinwen. Elise Mertens. Maria Sakkari. Diana Shnaider. Nine straight matches. One set dropped. She is now the first qualifier in French Open history to reach the final. The last time a qualifier reached a Grand Slam final, it was Emma Raducanu at the 2021 US Open. Raducanu won. By simply making the final, Chwalinska has earned more prize money than her entire career combined. The runner-up cheque alone is $1.6 million. If she wins today, she takes home $3.25 million. One week ago she couldn't pay for her hotel room.

Premier Wab Kinew @WabKinew just called building a data centre “slavery to surveillance capitalism”. Really… Welcome to Canada, global investors! - it is an NDP art form to wrap economic illiteracy in the self-righteous language of social action and climate alarmism. - and to borrow billions in debt, lose jobs and let cities decline into drug dens while picking up transfer grant welfare cheques from Alberta. Alberta - which just created more jobs than the rest of Canada combined - is about to announce some of the largest digital - and other - infrastructure deals in the nation. Alberta with its referendum is still attracting more capital than anywhere else in Canada. Because global capital is less threatened by direct democracy than by bankrupt premiers thinking essential digital infrastructure is “capitalist surveillance”.
We are saying no to a data centre in Île-des-Chênes because there are big threats to the environment and not much benefit to the economy. Our message to any tech company out there… if you want to build technology with a thoughtful, human-centred approach that puts humanity first, then Manitoba is open for business. 🦬

This is central to CUSMA negotiations. “Canada’s border isn’t just broken by federal incompetence at managing vast obvious fraud - it’s become a global magnet for the worst criminal and terror syndicates in the world now. Canada is now the #1 source nation - over 80pc - of all terrorists interdicted at US borders.”
Canada’s “criminal tourism”. Many don’t realise why Alberta’s referendum in October features 5 opening questions on immigration and benefits fraud. - Canada’s border isn’t just broken by federal incompetence at managing vast obvious fraud - it’s become a global magnet for the worst criminal and terror syndicates in the world now. They ignore our laws and pretend to be asylum seekers and raid our benefits system when caught. Terrorists love the incompetent naïveté of Canadas federal govt as much as organized crime does. Canada is now the #1 source nation - over 80pc - of all terrorists interdicted at US borders now. It’s already destroying thousands of lives and the security of millions of Canadians. How long are we going to play with fire until this obvious failure to secure our border results in a mass casualty terror attack in the USA? @gregbradyx is on it. Any comment from @SeanFraserMP or @MarcMillerVM on how they managed to destroy an immigration system that used to be the envy of the world and made Canada so unsafe?

46 arrested 164 wanted 1400 charges NONE of the 46 164 are Canadian, PR, or on a work visa. Just visitors knowing we have the weakest laws & leakiest border. What are Durham Police up against? What are WE up against? THIS. 👇 I praise them for their diligence.

Corey Hogan is a Liberal MP from Calgary. He wants to push back against separatism to fight for Canada. Three tips on that from someone who debated the separatist idea last year in Red Deer in front of 1200 Albertans: 1. Skip the soft-light “here to help” desk/flag schtick. - Albertans want a representative with the courage to take hard messages back to Ottawa, not a therapist delivering soft messages the other way. 2. Secure a policy win for Alberta this summer/fall: - work hard to reverse C48 - the one-way tanker ban preventing Alberta energy from getting to Asia (while the govt permits Saudi tankers to enter the other way). If you aren’t doing that, explain why not. Nationally self-defeating policies like that are why people think Canada is broken. 3. Answer the other 9 referendum questions: - Describe your response to the other 9 referendum questions defining federal/provincial powers on the use of schools, hospitals and social services by non-permanent residents, residual provincial/federal powers and judges etc. Being elected as a Liberal MP in Calgary is no small thing. You deserve credit for that. You’re the only one, and that speaks to who you are as an individual and your political skills. But that makes your task harder. Ottawa has created an environment where a third of Alberta thinks the country is broken enough to warrant going independent. A third thinks that’s crazy. And another third are willing - under the right circumstances - to let it go to a vote. Thats dangerous territory. To change those numbers, Ottawa has to reverse C48 and other obvious attacks on Alberta energy. Absent real change, more Albertans will decide to build their future on new terms. And they’ll use direct democracy to do that - over MP trustees who are scared to tell Ottawa what has to change. @coreyhoganyyc @MichelleRempel @shuvmajumdar @GregMcLeanYYC
In the last few weeks, Alberta separatism has dominated headlines. Whether we like it or not, this debate is here, it's getting louder - and the pro-Canada side needs to show up. Let's talk about why and how we push back against Alberta separatism and fight for Canada. 🇨🇦
