i'm sorry. my dad is emotionally/verbally abusive, and he used to get violent with my mom when i was little. he's still so mean to her. now i get in his sorry-ass 88 year old cancer-ridden face and when he tries to intimidate me, i just say "bring it on, old man." he backs down.
