Official account for Dr. Lynne Maquat's Lab at UR. Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay. Translational control. Transcriptional regulation. We love everything RNA!
Congratulations goes out to @Dr_EAbshire, a postdoc in the @MaquatLab, who was recently awarded a K99/R00 for her project titled "Regulation of exon junction complex composition and assembly."

Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman – awarded the 2023 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine – discovered that base-modified mRNA can be used to block activation of inflammatory reactions and increase protein production when mRNA is delivered to cells.
Cheers to RNA biologist Lynne Maquat for officially receiving the Gruber Genetics Prize @Genetics2023 in Australia for her work on nonsense-mediated mRNA decay. Proud to have you represent @UofR on an international stage! #URochesterResearch@MaquatLaburmc.info/15L
Study in @Nature details a new algorithm to find the most stable, efficient mRNA sequence to use in vaccines. Dave Mathews @lhuang3 show optimal mRNA sequences lead to ⬆️ protein production, improved immune response @UofR@OregonState#URochesterResearchurmc.info/Wa
Our next Dean’s Lecture Series event is happening Monday, Dec. 12 and features our very own RNA expert Lynne Maquat, Ph.D. (@MaquatLab). Details here: urmc.info/DS.
It's @AlexanderHewko 's birthday celebration-- and an extra spooky birthday cake for Halloween made by RAP Xavier Rambout in the @MaquatLab! #Halloween
Dave Matthews and his team of biophysics, biology, chemistry & physics students (a few pictured 👇) earned a @NIGMS MIRA grant (Maximizing Investigators' Research Award) to study RNA structure modeling using physics & sequence comparison. Congrats! #URochesterResearch@UofR 👏
Research from @Wagnerlab_RNA 👇& the Tong lab @Columbia reveals the presence of IP6 in the Integrator Cleavage Module. The work in @NatureComms opens up cellular signaling as a potential regulator of Integrator’s transcriptional control #URochesterResearchurmc.info/x9
