I first heard of this when I was driving, and I started freaking out about how they did targeted advertising through the radio

Whenever I see a Tesla on the road, I think of a fake Bo Burnham song I imagined about inconveniencing Teslas. It talks about if you're speeding, just going the speed limit. If you're at an intersection, look both ways twice. If one is behind you, slow down for a yellow light.

While, sure, you could get lucky, being an "influencer" isn't a direct career path. It's much easier if you're getting into it from something else. If you have knowledge about it from elsewhere.

I didn't just start talking about swords after high school and luck out. I worked as a fencing instructor. I was in the military. I worked on a farm. I went to school. I was a writer. All that (except maybe farming) helped set me up for this current career path.

Shepherds regularly used slings to keep predators away. It was a "shepherd's tool" much in the same way a revolver was a cowboy tool. Both were still common military weapons.
The point of the story is David is a sheperd and not a warrior. A sheperd killing a giant with a sheperd's tool. David's faith in God's will is the narrative. That's why he prevailed. He believed.

How come it's such a common myth that swords are HEAVY But no one has left comments on how strong I must be swinging them around in videos?

C'mon, if I need to debunk this all the time at least let me benefit from it a bit.

"Swords were so expensive that only knights could have them." We have numerous documents and laws spanning about 1,000 years requiring many citizens who were expected to provide some military service to own swords.

Some interesting takeaways from reading those and more: "Axe or sword" was pretty common. People recommended at least owning a sidearm even over owning a shield or spear (but not having the latter two lended to you for service was bad). Shield was seen as the minimum amount of armor. After that, a helmet. Swords (or axes in the form of a tomahawk) were mandatory as late as 1779.

The best thing to do would be to use the money to help people. But why don't they do cool passion projects? Elon allegedly likes scifi. Dude could make caseless ammo real effortlessly and we'd be using .67 Elon for decades.

There was one bit of 40k lore I remember that had some hive world throw any psyker they found into some pit underneath or next to the city to wait for the Black Ships. Can't remember where I read it... Maybe some RPG sourcebook

Video games are supposed to be masculine power fantasies. That's the whole point of the medium.

There was that famous Persian โ€œif we conquer your lands weโ€™ll destroy everything.โ€ And the Spartanโ€™s reply was simply โ€œif.โ€ And then they conquered Sparta a few years later and destroyed everything.

Another example: Spartans. They are known for some absolutely cold one-liners, but no one wants to tell you about what happens right after they say those
It's so weird how what we think of historical things doesn't stand up to actual history. David vs. Goliath. Underdog story. But David brought the standard issue ranged weapon of countless armies. Sometimes even seen as superior to bows. Of course he won.

Neat. But makes me realize just how often we name things based on historic military words without them actually doing what those words mean. "Dragoon" and "commando" are some others.
