I have arrived in Gaza, where people’s suffering is intolerable.
I repeat our urgent call for civilians to be protected in line with the laws of war and for aid to enter unimpeded.

Adding to my comments on All Things Considered: Hamas deliberately locating military objectives (including the targeted commander) amidst civilians is the war crime of using human shields. That said, it does not change IDF obligations, which are as described in the interview.

I lost 64 colleagues in just over three weeks. The last tragic passing was 2 hours ago. Samir, Head of Security & Safety…was killed with his wife and eight children.

I have not been sleeping since the horrific nightmare in Israel unfolded. Civilians should never be a target. Never. I’m now horrified about what will happen to the civilian population in Gaza, almost half of whom are children.

Gallant is ordering a massive war crime (ICC 8(2)(b)(xxv)) & very likely a crime against humanity (ICC 7(1)(b), 7(2)(b) [extermination] / 7(1)(k) [inhumane acts]). Presence of combatants w/in a civ. population does not affect its civ. character (AP I 50(3)). ICC has jurisdiction.

It cheapens the concept of antisemitism--a real global curse--for defenders of the Israeli government to pretend that it is somehow antisemitic to hold Israel to the same standards of international humanitarian law as we use to assess Hamas's conduct. A war crime is a war crime.
