Someone dies by suicide in our country every 90 minutes. Three-quarters of these are men.
I spoke with Luke the co-founder of @andysmanclubuk about male suicide, mental health and the help that is out there. 👇
Andy's Man Club is an incredible organisation that helps men across Britain open up, talk about what is going on in their lives, and help one another. I have been to sessions in my constituency and was overwhelmed by the support they can offer men dealing with all sorts of problems in their lives - small or large.
In each session, a football is passed around the group to share thoughts, challenges, and successes. Simple, but effective and liberating!
As a government, we take mental heath - and men's mental health - seriously. We published England’s first Men's Health Strategy last year, which committed further funding for suicide prevention programmes, recognising that suicide is one of the biggest killer of men under 50.
We are investing £3.6 million in community based suicide prevention projects - and supporting the @premierleague Together Against Suicide initiative with @samaritans.
And this is a challenge for all of us, not just government. As a society we can do more to encourage men to open up, get the weight off their shoulders. That is a key part of our Men and Boys work led by @DavidLammy - amplifying the issues, assuring folk there is help out there.

"We are completely devastated by the horrific attack on our loved one on Kinnaird Avenue.
"This has been a massive shock to our whole family, and right now, our only priority is being at his bedside and helping him recover.
"We want to say a profound thank you to the local people who bravely stepped in during the attack.
"Your quick actions absolutely saved his life, and we will never forget what you did for him in that moment.
"We also want to thank the emergency services and the doctors and nurses looking after him.
"We are aware of the tensions and talk of protests following this incident.
"We want to make it absolutely clear that overnight unrest is not welcome, and peaceful protest is the only way forward.

Since 1980, just 13 deportation or extradition cases have been overturned by Strasbourg. Braverman is selling people a nonsense silver bullet that won’t work.
Suella Braverman tells me: “As Home Secretary I repeatedly argued to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet that we needed to leave the ECHR to stop the invasion. For this, I was attacked, blocked and undermined by my own Conservative colleagues who have consistently refused to apologise for the failures of the last government.
“The failure to stop the boats and leave the ECHR remains the Greatest Betrayal by the last Conservative government and it is why over 90% of asylum claims are approved. It is the main reason I left that dysfunctional and treacherous party and why the Conservative Party can never be trusted again.”

He told BBC Radio Manchester: “It’s this thing about control, isn’t it? It feels like the country isn’t functioning properly, running things properly and the small boats issue completely speaks to that. People want it to be dealt with. We do need to go further.
“We need to make greater use of detention so that people who have got no basis for a claim are not actually admitted into the country.
“So that’s dealt with quickly and there’s a speedier return. It is something that has to be gripped and gripped properly. Because it is about trust in politics and it is one of those things that is fraying that trust to a degree.”
