All the boys / young men who die by blades & punches from the hands of other males How many? Countless Why? So often it’s some diseased understanding of what ‘being a man’ means ‘Respect’, ‘honour’, ‘status’, ‘pride’ All poison & heartache All skin colours are vulnerable

Delighted @SluggerOToole has republished my Substack piece, written as both an opinion piece and an explainer for readers outside Northern Ireland. I grew up here during the Troubles, left for London for a few years, and came back post-GFA. ‘Families were burned out of their homes in Belfast this week in openly racist violence. But Sara Morrison, who has lived in Belfast most of her life, argues that what happened on the Newtownards Road is the product of decades of political failure, an unfinished peace process, and communities that were never rebuilt. A vital if uncomfortable read.’ The comments are interesting. sluggerotoole.com/2026/06/13…
The hurl was ours: why Belfast’s politicians need to do more than condemn… Families were burned out of their homes in Belfast this week in openly racist violence. But Sara Morrison, who has lived in Belfast most of her life, argues that what happened o sluggerotoole.com/2026/06/13…

My algorithm (apart from on here, TwXtter) is: Gardening Metal detecting Archeology Permaculture Linguistics And… a young American bloke in a cowboy hat eating grub around the UK, often involving mushy peas What’s yours?

I’m really looking forward to this - and suitably nervous. 250 resident doctors, roughly 60:40 male/female split. Aged around 26-35 yrs Two women experts talking about policy and the law, then I’m talking about culture amongst men Title: What Do Safe Male Colleagues Do?
Am speaking soon at a doctor's conference, covering sexual harassment within the medical profession (& patient abuse too). Facts are clear / stark: the overwhelming majority of abuse is male on female, and it's widespread. I'll be talking abt power, accountability & ethics

Would it be too much to ask that the people who seek to be MPs have done real jobs (as employees, self-employed or employers) for a minimum period - at least 5 years - and that doesn’t include working for other politicians?
0% Yes, that's outlandish
100% No, it's a no-brainer

It wouldn’t mean they were any good, necessarily, but it’d at least stop them being myopically naive in at least one small way. Then we could address the next deeply ingrained issue with MPs - like disproportionately coming from a tiny number of schools. Just venting, tbh…

Anyone know of a refuge or DV charity that accepts used smartphones for the women who need them? Cheers

I'm doing a little bit on BBC Radio Scotland around 10:00 this morning, around the issues addressed in Gareth Southgate's BBC Documentary 'Changing the Game for Young Men' Have you seen it? What do you think? bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0…

Is it useful to our understanding of what is overwhelmingly male-perpetrated violence, happening now, to describe it as ‘medieval’? For example late 70’s/early 80s Belfast saw #ShankillButchers doing this exact type of horrific violence The difference? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanki…

I don't do talks for big groups of boys/young men cos they're set-piece monologue, not dialogue. It doesn't model anything constructive & uses an existing power imbalance template while crossing its fingers for magic. A numbers game offering ersatz outputs menatworkcic.org
