Active Shooter Situation in Midland, TX – Suspect Identified
This morning around 8:00 a.m. CST, Texas DPS, Midland Police Department, and other local, state, and federal law enforcement partners responded to reports of an active shooter in the 4600 block of West Wall Street in Midland.
When officers arrived, the suspect — identified as Victor Mata Villarreal, 45, of Odessa — opened fire on officers and bystanders before barricading himself inside an abandoned veterinary clinic.
Background:
On Wednesday night, June 10, around 11:23 p.m., Midland Police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 4800 block of Anetta. The driver fled, stopped in the 4700 block of Comanche, exited the vehicle, and fired multiple rounds from a rifle at the officer. The officer returned fire, but the suspect escaped in the vehicle, which was later found abandoned nearby. The officer was not injured.
Villarreal was wanted for Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer. Texas DPS has now confirmed he is the suspect in today’s active shooter incident.
Law enforcement remains on scene as the investigation continues.

As a result of the inaction of our state’s so-called leaders, billions of hard-earned taxpayer dollars were diverted to criminals instead of helping Minnesotans in need. Today, I led my fellow Minnesota Congressional Republicans in sending a letter to Gov. Walz and AG Ellison urging them to resign after @GOPoversight’s recent report exposed that they were aware of the fraud running rampant throughout our state, ignored and dismissed employees and whistleblowers who warned them, and failed to act. They must be held accountable.

Old West End Festival Shooting Investigation Update:
Following numerous interviews and investigative leads, arrest warrants have been issued for Ka Nye Taylor, who is wanted on 11 counts of Felonious Assault in connection with the June 6, 2026, shooting at the Old West End Festival.
Ka Nye Taylor, 20 years of age, is a black male, 5’11, 130 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.
Investigators have also obtained photographs of a second shooter and are seeking the public's assistance in identifying him.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Ka Nye Taylor or the identity of the second shooter is encouraged to call or text Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
A reward of up to $10,000 is available through Crime Stoppers for information leading to their arrests.
The US Marshals Service has also offered an award of up to $5,000.
This investigation remains active and ongoing.

It is simply unacceptable for public trains to serve as homeless shelters. Individuals experiencing homelessness deserve real resources and comprehensive assistance, including substance abuse and mental health services, to truly guide them toward recovery.
Chicago spends at least $69 million on homelessness initiatives, yet this is the best we have to show for it? We must demand accountability. These programs need to deliver real results for the taxpayers footing the bill and, most importantly, for the people who desperately need the help.
Taking the Blue Line home after a red eye from ORD and every car is full of people dealing with housing insecurity.
This is not how you deal with homelessness. This is not the role of public transit. This is not how you introduce tourists to your city. @ChicagosMayor
