After Jesse Singal suggested it was beneath Popehat to insinuate that the killing of Elon Musk would have a moral upside, Popehat suggests that Jesse is not troubled by Musk stoking violence. Jesse wrote yesterday: “Elon Musk is loathsome. I've said and written as such. Via DOGE he doomed many babies to unecessary deaths. He is broken. But you don't want to go (further) down the road of ‘Let's kill the people we hate!’ for reasons most 6-year-olds can understand.”
Over on Bluesky, Popehat, who is an attorney who often schools others in the finer points of the law, insinuates that there would be a moral upside to someone killing Elon Musk.

LMAO South and Latin America had GDP/capita of $3k (Honduras) - $23k (Urauguay). Our poorest state, Mississippi, has a GDP per capita of $56k. Our modal state, Kansas, is $81,075.

I regret to inform you that the lunatic Central Planners are at it again
What would it require to enforce Piketty’s plan? About this matter, he is conveniently vague. Confiscating something on the order of 10% of world GDP and redirecting it through a newly created supranational body does not happen by asking nicely. You cannot restructure the global economy at that scale without a coercive apparatus that dwarfs anything in human history. The mechanism must be authoritarian. It would require a world government with the power to tell billions of people which jobs they may and may not hold, what they may build, what they may eat and how many hours they are permitted to work. And to what end? “Climate change” is an insufficient answer when Picketty’s entire edifice is built on a discredited foundation. The report relies on a baseline from the RCP8.5 climate scenario that projects Earth warming by as much as 4.8 degrees Celsius by 2100. But last month, the UN’s own climate panel officially retired RCP8.5 (always a high-end estimate) as “implausible.” A more central projection is about 2.7 C. Replies to Piketty’s X feed pointed this out immediately. His response, as far as anyone can tell, has been silence. That leaves the inequality argument. Worldwide income inequality is nearing a 150-year low, but Piketty insists that radical redistribution of wealth is essential for the Global South. And where have billionaires and wealth been popping up fastest in recent decades? Embarrassingly, data from Piketty’s World Inequality Database confirms that it’s in South and Southeast Asia, as well as East Asia. These are the exact Global South regions that have spent recent decades rescuing hundreds of millions of people from poverty through market-directed economic growth. latimes.com/opinion/story/20…

The US govt spends $7 trillion every year and they don’t solve shit.
A trillion dollars could solve virtually every problem. Any problem at all. But instead it’s all just going to Some Guy

A $400 tow behind sprayer is a marvel of price engineering. It has 400 parts, each produced for $1, that - by rights - should each cost $10. ....and because of this, every single lowest-priced-bidder piece of garbage is perpetually breaking.

The best part is that on the off chance those shoddy parts are available to buy for repairs, that $1 part that by rights should be $10 is available for $23.99 with absolutely no increase in quality.

Bought one and immediately had to replace the pump, but couldn't get the exact model, so had to force the new one in, so now the hose seal gasket doesn't want to fit right and I have to fight it every time I use it. Still worth it.

the spacex ipo irks libs because they think meritocracy is a lib thing and it turns out meritocracy doesn’t actually exist and the closest thing thing to actual meritocracy is capitalism and they’re bad at it because it rewards risk-taking not credentialism

The thing that winds me up is how Elon has a trillion because he’s set up a system where he forcibly takes 40% of what hard working people produce, leverages it up as debt, spends it ineffectively and does dumb things to win the votes of millions of people who’ve become dependent on his handouts.

I'm extremely disagreeable, but I would never call people of ANY color "equipment". Equipment is silent, and does what I want. I LIKE equipment!

Being disagreeable enough to call black people farm equipment means that Diane would be completely impossible to live with I have to imagine this is a common problem with "based" women

Marriage Pro Tip: Pay attention to when your spouse does little things like this to upset you. "Keep score," if you will. Keep a score for yourself too, for whenever you're thoughtful and self-sacrificing. That way, if you're ever arguing, you can pull out the scores, show your spouse that yours is higher, and win the argument on the spot! You'll also have hard proof that you're the better spouse
A lot of ink is spilled about female solipsism, but ask any woman the number of times a man she's living with has gotten up to get himself a glass of water and not bothered asking if she wanted one too. Daily lack of consideration is just the tip of the iceberg.

Absolutely love Berkey. Entirely agree w this entire post.
Speaking of space and genre art, Travis Lee Clark and I have been discussing John Berkey. Whose signature impressionistic futurism left a big impact on me as a kid. I checked out this specific book from the library repeatedly. Then went back and bought it in 2017, from Amazon. Just to have a copy for the sake of memories. Awhile back I actually contacted Berkey's widow to see about licensing one of his lesser-known paintings for a book cover. It was a bit of a high price point for my taste, but at the same time, it's JOHN freakin' BERKEY. The king of 70s genre art. Almost everyone knows his movie posters for Star Wars or The Towering Inferno. Berkey's style did something I've often lauded Bob Eggleton for doing: creating paintings which suggest an immense amount, without specifying anything in fine detail. The spectator's imagination fills in the rest. It's wonderful.
