For retrieval, is it better to use: A) A low-floor, high-ceiling task such as: “I have $5. Show me as many ways as possible to make this amount.” or B) Ten different slides presented in succession, each requiring students to calculate a total?

Interesting that designing an inquiry unit is being treated as evidence of weak teacher preparation. I’d argue the opposite.
I was speaking to a trainee primary teacher yesterday. An Australian university is requiring her to write inquiry learning units to gain her qualification. Explicit units are not an option. Australian teacher education needs radical reform and fast. @BenCarrollMP @JasonClareMP

Hmmm 🤨
A young teenager charged over a two-month crime spree has had all 109 charges against her dropped. It has been decided the girl was too young to know her actions were wrong. @LauraTurner_7 is following the case.

The difficult task of learning to read, write, & use math as a child pales in comparison to the difficult task of living life as an adult incapable of doing those things. It’s often not fun to be the adult who has to make students do the hard work of learning, but it’s essential.

Schools should more consistently expel students who continually disrupt learning. States should require those students to transition to structured online programs instead of returning to school.

The biggest industrial action by Victorian public school teachers in more than a decade has seen 35,000 staff walk out of classrooms over the Allan Govt’s 17% pay offer. Educators say it’s not enough to stop staff heading interstate, while flagging further stoppages. #springst

Sending my support to @AEUfederal Vic and all teachers who took industrial action today. Covid taught us who the truly essential workers are … and it ain’t hedge fund managers or online influencers. It’s time we paid our teachers for the difference they make to our country.
