Love this, @AhpDementia 💜 ‘The simple act of sharing ideas can unlock unprecedented change across organisations & systems’
25 Jan 2025
The simple act of sharing ideas can unlock unprecedented change across organisations & systems. If we want an organisation of high-performing, productive people, with high collective intelligence, building a culture of ideas-sharing is a big priority. We can do this by: 1) Creating routines & structured opportunities for people to share their ideas 2) Building relationships & connections across boundaries 3) Making it feel safe for people to put forward ideas, encouraging diverse views 4) Role-modelling, sharing our own ideas & prioritising time for learning & sharing 5) Demonstrating appreciation for new ideas 6) Showing impact - how ideas sharing is contributing to our shared goals 7) Always feeding back & following up on ideas jointhecollective.com/articl…. By Join the Collective. I paired it with a graphic by @OfficeGuyToons

I often say that the key to understanding behaviour in dementia care is just understanding behaviour. We all get overwhelmed or confused sometimes. Our responses don’t need to be complicated - staying calm & simply being with the person can make a positive difference.
Feeling confused in any situation is overwhelming. It can trigger a range of reactions such as panic, anger or fear. Staying calm and present when someone feels confused won’t cure the confusion. But it may anchor and soothe. That may be enough. #WithSLTuCan

The experience of #delirium can be terrifying and that feeling of fear can linger long after the delirium resolves. Another reason why patient & carer #education is essential to ensure everyone understands what’s happening/happened and can feel safe.

Changes in eating & drinking in dementia can be unexpected & unusual. It’s common to ‘go off’ favourite foods or develop a new preference for sweet things. Sensitivity to lumps or ‘bits’ may feel intolerable. Look for patterns to help choices. #WithSLTuCan
