UNC-Chapel Hill is lucky to have Dr. Baker on their board—she’s a fantastic public servant.
The UNC System’s Board of Governors approved Dr. Kristin Baker of Cabarrus County during its meeting on May 21, selecting the psychiatrist to fill the seat left by John Preyer, who resigned from the Board of Trustees in January. Here are the details: chapelboro.com/news/unc/form…

Making the case to who? Certainly not the Republican legislature…
The Democrats in #ncpol are making the case today that NC should be the first Democratic Pres. primary in the country. Re-upping this piece from a few months ago arguing that, although NC is a pretty good bellweather, another state should bat leadoff. chriscooperwcu.substack.com/…

This week we saw my new opponent (who moved to the district just 2 weeks before announcing his candidacy for office last fall) call for left-wing activist judges to circumvent the NC Constitution and legislate from the bench. My opponent is a left wing progressive activist - he worked to elect the most far-left fringe Democrats to office. These folks have raised your local taxes to unsustainable levels, and continue to push policies that we know don’t work and would damage our economy and state. No doubt he too will join this small group of fringe activists in the legislature if elected. Which is scary. So, it’s no surprise he’s going to New York City with his fellow liberal Wake County activist crew to fundraise there in an effort to turn our great state, and southern Wake County, in to California and New York. I’m not going to let out-of-touch Mamdani Socialists destroy southern Wake County, and I hope you won’t either. #ncpol Help me fight back HERE: secure.anedot.com/committee-…

House Speaker Destin Hall calls passing a budget the No. 1 priority as the Short Session approaches. "I think we will, and it's absolutely critical. It's our No. 1 priority in the House," he said. "We have state employees, teachers, and law enforcement who need a pay raise, and that's what the House has been fighting for now during this entire biennium. And we want to make sure that they don't just get pay raises, but they get meaningful pay raises." #ncga #ncpol wral.com/news/nccapitol/hall…

Absurd results from Cooper’s longtime strategist. Should be taken about as seriously as a campaign internal. #ncpol

Property taxes are out of control. Families are getting ripped off as counties like Wake and Cabarrus rake in billions more than inflation and population growth warrant. It’s time for REAL reform. Levy limits will stop runaway property tax hikes and protect NC taxpayers.

"After an extremely hard-fought campaign, I want to thank God, my family and our friends across the district for last night's results. Due to the hard work of so many of you, we were able to get our message out and deliver huge victories in all 4 counties. I will continue working to stand up for our shared values, address the concerns that impact daily lives here in the district and promote our vision for the future. I am so grateful for this opportunity and it is my honor to get back to work on your behalf. Thank you & God Bless!" -Rep. Jake Johnson

She’s the perfect encapsulation of performative left-wing millennial politics. AOC can’t answer a question that doesn’t involve 1) blaming Trump 2) defaulting to identity politics or 3) shallow “eat the rich” DSA economics. So we get this word salad.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hesitates for quite a bit when asked at the #MSC2026 whether the U.S. should send troops to defend Taiwan if China invades.

Good story overall-but Buncombe County doesn’t have a choice regarding cooperation with ICE detainers under current law. The “warrant” requirement here was only true before H10 (and H318) passed in 2023/25. They will have to hand over this monster to ICE.
SCOOP: Feds are begging sanctuary authorities in Asheville, North Carolina, to hand over an illegal immigrant from Mexico who allegedly raped three children Detectives first learned of Juan Ramon Juarez-Talamantes' alleged crimes in July 2024 after receiving a report of a rape involving a child lured by a man named “Juan” on Snapchat, according to the Asheville Citizen Times. The child and their friend met up with the man in his car before going to his house, according to the local report. The child told detectives that the man kissed the child. When he attempted to “take it further,” the child told him “no.” “He slapped (the child) on the face and proceeded to rape (the child)." dailywire.com/news/feds-impl…

Since 2015, the average property tax bill in Wendell (Wake County) went up 143%. That’s absolutely ridiculous. Cumulative inflation during the same time period was 34%. Small businesses can’t afford rent, seniors are having to choose between their prescription drugs and paying property taxes on their home, and young families can’t afford to buy a house. Time for the state to get involved. #ncpol
