We had the pleasure of taking 6 politically engaged students to Angmering school today for a debate between the candidates standing for Worthing West constituency. The students discussed their ideas afterwards. Here's to more political engagement and participating in democracy!

Pleased to have contributed to this important area of discussion on #Biomass. Taking a chainsaw to the world’s forests is not and will never be acceptable. Historic mistakes may not be changed. Future ones can be avoided.
Drax is the UK's largest recipient of green subsidies for biomass. They've been under particular focus as this year the BBC reported it had burned wood from rare forests in Canada. Now, #Newsnight's @katelamble has seen evidence of almost 200 environmental breaches at the mills which turn wood, headed to Drax, into pellets.

🌳 CEN MP and Father of the House @PBottomleyMP explains why we should be tougher on biomass subsidies. Despite its questionable environmental credentials, the public has spent millions of pounds already.

On St George's Day, we also celebrate Shakespeare's birthday. Icons like Shakespeare show the strength of English culture and language on the international stage. In Summer, we will celebrate English teams at the Euros whilst at the same time cheering on Team GB at the Olympics.

Let us recognise the choice of national pride is not binary: it is not one or the other but, rather, both. Happy St George's Day to one and all in Arun, in Worthing and across the UK. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

Alexei Navalny lived and died for a democratic Russia and for the freedom of its citizens. The President of Russia is making his people suffer and die for his despotic ambitions.

In going public with his diagnosis, he has brought to the forefront the importance of regular testing and early diagnosis of such terrible diseases as cancer. 1000 people a day are diagnosed with cancer in the UK. Millions are living with a diagnosis and undergoing treatment.

With early detection through standard practices like mammograms, prostate exams and blood tests, we can treat cancer sooner and less invasively. I encourage all to attend tests and appointments when invited and to be aware of noticeable symptoms of common forms of cancer.

Over three hundred local residents, community leaders and campaign supporters joined together with me on Chatsmore Farm on Saturday. Thank you. We sent a clear, united message ahead of the Planning Inspector hearing Persimmon’s appeal: we do not want Goring Gap concreted over!

Today we recognise #HolocaustMemorialDay. Six million were brutally murdered. Five million men and women alongside over a million children. I welcome the emphasis that the Holocaust Commission has put on education, followed up by words from the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation.

Through education and research, I now know that the more than 110 of my grandfather’s residents were swept up mainly in the Netherlands to die with Anne Frank and her father in a Polish camp. That kind of education matters.

As the holocaust moves out of living memory, days like this offer moments to remember and to learn from. I signed the Book of Commitment, pledging to meet hatred with love, and division with unity.
