📢📢 Working New Yorkers to @nycmayor: Expand Fair Fares! Working-class, transit-dependent bus and subway riders who keep our city running deserve affordable transit. Nobody knows that better than the workers @32bjseiu, who have joined @1199SEIU, @rwdsustronger, @transportworker more in calling on Mayor Mamdani to expand Fair Fares and cut transit costs for millions of workers! Together, these unions represent hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers from home health aides to airport workers, many of whom face massive affordability challenges and would greatly benefit from expanding Fair Fares’ income threshold to reach more low-wage workers. One in five New Yorkers struggled to afford transit fares, according to CSS’s latest survey, and a third who were eligible for Fair Fares are unenrolled. Respondents called the application process “complicated and slow”, said VP of Research Rachel Swaner.
Residents who qualify for the Fair Fares program said affording transit costs is still difficult, according to a new report from the Community Service Society. thecity.nyc/2026/05/05/fair-…

The cost of riding public transit should never be a barrier for low-income New Yorkers.

We're fighting to expand Fair Fares to provide free subway and bus rides for those who need it most.

Free bus, subway, and paratransit for very low income New Yorkers who currently qualify would offer transformative access to opportunity, but for the working class riders who keep this city running, relief can’t stop there. Expanding Fair Fares to those earning up to 300% of the federal poverty level is essential to making transit affordable for *every* New Yorker.
The City Council wants to offer free subway and bus fares to over one million New Yorkers living at or below 150% of the federal poverty level, a change that would mark a significant expansion of the city’s Fair Fares program. amny.com/nyc-transit/city-co…

Very, very cool news from @PCACriders — there's been more than 90 million additional subway rides since the beginning of congestion pricing in NYC. We've already know it's raised $$ and cleared the air, but it's clear it's incentivizing transit, too! amny.com/nyc-transit/congest…
