Any reporter with even a basic understanding of politics would know that once a leadership position has been made clear, no minister is going to undermine it on live television. Sir Keir Starmer has repeatedly stated that he is not going anywhere. That message has been delivered consistently and repeatedly. It has also been heard by party members, many of whom understand that stability is more important than yet another round of internal political drama. The problem is that some journalists appear more interested in pursuing a storyline than listening to the answers being given. Asking the same question repeatedly does not create a different reality. It merely reinforces the perception that the interview was designed to produce a headline rather than inform the public. Starmer said it, and he's going to be there at the end. Sir, I do not understand your apparent ability to predict not only the outcome of a by election, but also the thoughts and feelings of Labour members and party activists across the country. You are a Conservative politician and, with respect, probably the last person Labour members would consult on the internal politics of the Labour Party. Rather than speculating about Labour, perhaps your time would be better spent reflecting on the record of your own party. The Conservative Party's years in government left behind a catalogue of failures, from economic instability and declining public services to the chaos of Brexit and a collapse in public trust. History will judge your leadership and the Conservative Party's record. If you wish to comment on politics, perhaps explain why your party has become increasingly irrelevant to so many voters and why it continues to struggle to reconnect with the country it once claimed to represent.
