Great design starts with a clear purpose. On Tiger Sisters, @evanspiegel reflects on how that idea shaped @Snapchat and helped create a more casual, expressive way to communicate. youtube.com/watch?v=0IYBJXS-…

I'm in agreement with CCI here. We need to have the new economy represented on this Advisory Committee. And we need to be mindful about Big Tech playing both sides.
Today, the federal government announced the membership of the Advisory Committee on Canada‑U.S. Economic Relations. CCI is urging the federal government to add expertise to this council that reflects the 21st-century economy. Read the full statement: canadianinnovators.org/conte…

I don’t think people realize how much healthcare costs are driving big companies to fire and not hire. It costs them $30k per family, per year for premiums and care. Most of that goes to the massive, vertically integrated insurance companies that send weekly bills that no one reviews in details. And it doesn’t include the company overhead to deal with it all. It’s usually the 2nd largest expense after payroll. Which is insane It’s far easier to blame AI than it is to blame Healthcare costs. Want to increase jobs, wages and improve affordability for every American ? Break up the biggest insurance companies. Make divest non insurance companies. They don’t need thousands of subsidiaries. That’s how they game and abuse the system and increase costs for all of us. Call your senator and tell them to support the BreakUp Big Medicine Bill by @HawleyMO and @SenWarren.

What you are actually doing here is to bribe nokia to put these jobs into Canada by paying hundreds of thousands of dollars per job from taxpayer money. What this does is to lower the cost basis of nokia per employee. This has been going on for decades, called FDI which all civil servants think is a good thing. I spent a lot of time explaining to civil servants in ottawa that its not good for our economy that American and Oversees branch offices can employ Canadians at half the cost to all the canadian companies around them due to these subsidies. We should not do them at all, they are toxic, at least in the tech sector. It's never meat to be this way, but the situation that very often arises is: It's strictly worse inside of Canada to be a Canadian company compared to a company headquartered everywhere else. This is a bad situation, because the fruits of the subsidized labor will accrue to the wealth of other countries and not Canada. It's tax payer money invested into locking up scarce high tech talent in jobs where they no longer contribute to the Canadian economy directly. Why
Canada is leading the global tech race. Today's milestone strengthens our digital infrastructure, drives innovation, and delivers results for Canadians across the country. ctvnews.ca/ottawa/article/no…

Canada needs to own our digital infrastructure. Or stay the digital branch plant of the world—paying rent and following someone else’s laws, The US isn’t messing around. They’re throwing TikTok out of the house. Meanwhile, Canada’s still renting the basement from Netflix.

A lot of people don’t realize how important SR&ED is, but people who work in Canadian tech know! This tax credit is worth nearly $4 billion each year, which makes it more than 10x bigger than the next biggest innovation incentive in Canada.

Canada’s destiny isn’t defined by others—it’s defined by us. Wait for the storm to pass & watch others seize the future.Hide in the shelter & hope Canada doesn’t get left behind. Or chase the tornado—back our entrepreneurs, build sovereign businesses, & shape our future together

Canada should be a leader in space. We can use industrial policy to get there. Canada has a proud 60-year heritage in the space sector creating mature space capabilities including being the 3rd country in space with the Alouette-1 satellite. However, in the last decade, even as the sector as a whole has advanced significantly, growth in Canada has stalled. A major factor holding back the industry is industrial policy and ineffective procurement. There is a strong ecosystem of both startups and world-class space companies in Canada, but no route to turn today’s new ventures into globally scaled winners. Canada has the talent, education, and track record needed to win in space. In addition, the current macroeconomic environment has left a void in global leadership, which Canada should claim as a neutral, globally trusted country. However, the country must have the right industrial policy. If the Canadian space industry is to reach its potential, it will require a clear strategy for investing in space to help our companies scale into the global champions they deserve to be. This means: Creating a national space strategy, having the government act as an anchor customer, decentralizing procurement, and reforming regulation. Claiming Canada's place in space is essential for the country's economic future, security, and sovereignty. We can use smart industrial policy to achieve this potential.
