.@BrianLehrer what has Latimer done to address SYSTEMIC environmental racism in Westchester? People in #Peekskill are bearing the burden of garbage burned at county incinerator. What has he done to shut it down? Has $13500 from incinerator company contributed to his inaction?
.@BrianLehrer q for George Latimer have campaign donations from polluters influenced his policies as County Executive like the $13500 he took from Wheelabrator to support continued operations of their trash incinerator in Peekskill?
I am continuing to push for the highest standards and the best solutions for our community throughout the Indian Point decommissioning process. My statement regarding last night's meeting:
ALT After last night’s discussion, there remain open questions that need answering. We still don’t have satisfactory answers about the potential impacts of this radiation in the context of all the other pollutants to which we are exposed. Arguments like “we’ve been doing this for years” and “we are all exposed to lots of radiation” are offensive to people who have lost loved ones to cancer, or are dealing with children with genetic abnormalities, for example. Ideally, we should be trying to eliminate exposure whenever possible and seeking alternatives to exposing people to unnecessary radiation.
The safe decommissioning of Indian Point remains the number one issue that constituents write to me about. My job is to represent my constituents and bring their concerns forward. My constituents by and large do not believe that Holtec or the NRC have their best interests at heart. (view more at https://nyassembly.gov/mem/Dana-Levenberg)
Today I made 30 of these signs -- all of them demanding that @GovKathyHochul stop the dumping of radioactive waste in the Hudson River. #StopHoltec#SavetheHudson
No Radioactive Waste in the Hudson River!
Awesome testimony from @AlexAtFWW calling out @GovKathyHochul for being silent on such an important issue, urging her to #StopHoltec NOW!
We stand with parents in the Hendrick Hudson School District who worry about their children 4000ft from #IndianPoint demolition and 400ft from the "Algonquin" Pipeline & dumping 1mill gallons of radioactive wastewater. @GovKathyHochul Why are you ignoring this? #StopHoltec
The incredible Courtney Williams from @SEnRGorg pleading with @GovKathyHochul to end her silence.
It’s time to get off the sidelines and protect the Hudson River from radioactive waste!
We are calling out @GovKathyHochul and demanding that she #StopHoltec from dumping radioactive wastewater in the #HudsonRiver and from endangering the children at Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School. Shame on you! Your silence is complicity #GovernorHochul
Thank you Cortlandt Town Supervisor Dr. Richard Becker for speaking up for safety.
@GovKathyHochul it's time to stand with this community and #StopHoltec from dumping 1 million gallons of radioactive wastewater in the Hudson and endangering the kids at BV Elementary!
.
It’s certainly helpful to have a physician as the head of the local government when it comes to protecting the environment.
Here are a few of Dr. Becker’s remarks:
Big crowd turned out in #Cortlandt to demand @GovKathyHochul use NY authority to protect kids at the elementary school and to stop the dumping of 1mill gallons of #radioactive wastewater from the spent fuel pools. Our kids deserve better! #HochulStopHoltec#StopHoltec
