IT HAS BEGUN!!! On Tuesday our brand new surgery interns took part in our patented Surgery Intern Bootcamp, rotating through 8 hands-on skills stations and practicing essentials like IV placement, chest tubes, Foley catheters, and more. A great way to build confidence, sharpen skills, and ease those first-day nerves before residency officially starts! #Surgery #SurgicalEducation #MedEd #GeneralSurgery #SurgeryResidency #ResidentLife #FutureSurgeons #Bootcamp #MedicalEduc

After 40 years in surgical practice we celebrate the remarkable career of Dr. David Rose. From training in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering to leadership roles as Chief of Surgery and Interim VP of Medical Affairs.  Dr Rose joined us in July 2022 to devote his time exclusively to clinical activities (patient care, teaching, and mentoring). His commitment to multidisciplinary, patient-centered breast care has touched countless lives. Thank you, Dr. Rose, for your leadership, compassion, and lasting contributions to surgery and medicine. Wishing you all the best in retirement! #BreastCancerCare #SurgicalOncology #PatientCare #PennMedicine

Emergency hernias place a significant burden on hospitals, particularly among older adults who face the highest rates of hernia disease and emergent repair. Our study examines how multimorbidity impacts outcomes on older adults across different hernia types, highlighting the need for targeted strategies to improve care for this growing patient population. #HerniaSurgery #EmergencySurgery #GeneralSurgery link.springer.com/article/10…

A national cohort study found that selective α-blockade before adrenalectomy for pheochromocytoma was associated with lower preoperative medication costs, without increasing downstream healthcare expenditures or compromising short-term outcomes. Cost-conscious, patient-centered care matters. #SurgOnc #EndocrineSurgery #Pheochromocytoma #Adrenalectomy #HealthEconomics link.springer.com/article/10…

New work published in @EJVES_ESVS shows Zone 2 #TEVAR often requires left subclavian artery revascularization, traditionally achieved with carotid-subclavian bypass. This study compares outcomes of thoracic branch endoprosthesis (TBE) versus CS bypass, providing important insights into both short- and long-term results for complex aortic arch repair. #AorticSurgery #VascularSurgery #Endovascular #AorticDisease ejves.com/article/S1078-5884…

New research published in JTCVS Open highlights unexpected nodal disease carries a significant cost. In a large national cohort, upstaging occurred in 13% of lung adenocarcinoma resections and was associated with worse survival than clinically node positive patients treated with neoadjuvant therapy. #CardiacSurgery #ThoracicSurgery #CardiothoracicSurgery #Research #JTCVSOpen jtcvsopen.org/article/S2666-…

New research coming out of Cardiac Surgery on aortic valve replacement in dialysis patients highlights the complexity of prosthesis selection in the TAVR era. No significant 5-year survival difference between bioprosthetic and mechanical SAVR, while SAVR showed worse early but improved long-term survival vs TAVR. High bleeding risk and poor overall survival persisted across all groups. #CardiacSurgery #CardioTwitter #Nephrology #HeartValveDisease #CTSurgery #AorticValveReplacement scopus.com/pages/publication…

The Penn Aorta Center team showed up strong today at the 2026 Philadelphia Walk for Victory, supporting patients and families living with Marfan syndrome, Loeys-Dietz syndrome, VEDS, and related aortic conditions. Walking side by side with the community we care for every day was a powerful reminder of why this work matters. Huge thanks to team leader Dr. Grace Wang and everyone who joined, cheered, donated, and supported us. Together, we’re advancing care, research, awareness, and victory for every patient. #MarfanWalk #WalkForVictory #PennAortaCenter #AorticHealth
