There is no world in which Part Sheehan knows more about robust educational reform than Carl Hendrick & Dan Willingham (to name but two). These two education experts have lavished praise on the reforms. Sheehan should simply listen; he might learn something.
"He has his own agenda. His agenda seems to be to drive through as much legislation as possible." Pat Sheehan says that while he gets on well personally with Education Minister Paul Givan, there are significant political differences between them. Speaking on the podcast, the Sinn Féin MLA said Givan's focus appears to be "to drive through as much legislation as possible" rather than pursuing what he sees as meaningful reform. #UKPolitics #SinnFéin #PaulGivan @dmcbfs | @timcairns

Total nonsense. Similar legislation applies in the South, Wales, Scotland, England and pretty much all of Europe. The right of children to a good education and safeguarding is what matters here, and inspection is key to this.
Tomorrow, Paul Givan will attempt to push through a bill that could see teachers face sanctions for taking strike action. You read that right. At a time when teachers are under growing pressure, the DUP Education Minister wants to diminish, not strengthen, teachers’ rights. We will not stand by & accept this. Sinn Féin will strongly oppose this crusade against teachers & stand up for their right to take industrial action.

Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK and Ireland where it's not already an offence to obstruct a school inspection.

Some valuable lessons here - close link between vocational ed & employers & active into-employment policy. But interesting the article entirely forgets to mention that a key part of the Dutch education system is streaming from the start of secondary school theguardian.com/society/2026…

I recently wrote a blogpost arguing that we need to connect trauma-informed practice and learning science principles. Their alignment has been hiding in plain sight for a long time. This has been picked up in a new piece by @EducationHQ_AU educationhq.com/news/teacher…

On first read this seems like an actually insane approach to reading. Am now a bit terrified that we’re slipping towards a dystopian future where instead of reading amazing books we prompt some LLM chat bot to churn out formulated crap masquerading as literature for us…

2. Teach Tales Our reading philosophy at Alpha is simple: kids learn to love reading by reading what they love. Sure, it’s important for kids to be exposed to classic literature. But being forced to read highbrow literature as a young teen is often the very thing that makes kids hate reading in the first place. Many of them never bother picking up a novel again. So, we built Teach Tales to solve this problem. Teach Tales is an AI-powered story-building platform that turns your kid into the author of their own custom adventures. teachtales.com/

Interesting study suggesting that adding retrieval practice to use of worked examples leads to better long-term retention of verb spelling rules among 4th graders but doesn’t lead to better application of the rules. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Suggestive that amount/quality of practice may be key to application.

What has been achieved in one year of TransformEd is really impressive with work across a range of areas from curriculum to teacher professional learning. Particularly good to see an evidence-based approach. NI is on the right track. education-ni.gov.uk/publicat…

As an assessment tool the essay is dead. But HE can’t seem to come to terms with that.
Some people will be graduating university with humanities degrees this summer who have never written an essay themselves. AI has made cheating the best option for a median level university student, says @daisychristo in her keynote at @researchEDGsy

This is yet another hugely encouraging development from the current Minister of Education @paulgivan and his team. As a Headteacher in a school which hosts student teachers like most schools do, I have observed that in the past there has sometimes been a noticeable inconsistency of approach across ITE providers, and a seriously worrying lack of knowledge on the part of some trainee teachers regarding key and core aspects of pedagogy, learning and development. This curriculum framework will address that effectively, and I am really impressed with the learning goals, core knowledge and practice expectations contained therein. Brilliant. This should bring a much more substantive evidence-based approach to the training of teachers which marries robust theoretical knowledge with clear pedagogical practice. Congraulations to @ProfDanielMuijs and all others involved!!
