Today in the House of Commons I urged @DWP to increase provisions for those who communicate using BSL. The @BDA_Deaf estimates there are over 80k Deaf BSL users in the UK & the Government must do all it can to ensure they are properly supported in these kinds of circumstances.

So important! If you uses British Sign Language please make sure you add this to the census. Last census recorded 15,000 which is a huge under representation of BSL users #Census2021 #deaf #bsl

350 responses so far after 2 days! Ideal is minimum 750 to capture at least 50% of registered profession. But the closer we get to 1500 the better! You know you can do it! Takes 15-20 mins & will help us to establish baseline for demographic profile of the SLTI profession in uk!
Don’t forget to fill in the #SLTICensus if you’re a trainee or qualified #bsl translator or interpreter! #SLRPDC @HeriotWattBSL @HW_CTISS @wlv_uni @ @UniWestScotland @ASLIUK @VLP_TerpTweets @NRCPD @RBSLItoday @_scosli @IoCN_1 @NUBSLI @Signworldlearn @deafaccesscomms

A statement from @ABSLTA (the Association of BSL Teachers and Assessors) on online BSL tutorials. Please be aware that many people who have set themselves up as BSL teachers online are not fluent signers nor properly trained teachers.

Apologies to deaf followers. As I'm working from home, my videos haven't been subtitled and I know that provides difficulties for some of you. My plan is now to post unsubtitled at speed, then get my team to subtitle and repost that version asap.

Excellent article! Too many deaf children aren’t given an opportunity to learn BSL or reap the benefits of having a Deaf identity because they are “coping” in mainstream without peers and role models. Please retweet this article far and wide!
Excellent article about the future of #BSL and the #Deaf community and their importance to all deaf people
