Our new preprint is out: we solved the structures of HIV-1 matrix (MA) from intact virions by SPA. The structure led us to a surprising discovery resolving a long mystery in HIV-1 biology – peptide SP2 regulates the maturation of the HIV-1 matrix. 🧵1/x tinyurl.com/c7szhtfa

It's known that anionic lipid charge enhances alpha-synuclein's ability to bind membranes. But did you know that alpha-synuclein can preferentially bind to neutral membranes when they are full of packing defects? Read about it in our latest preprint!

Pleased to see our paper now published in Autophagy Reports! Great work from all involved to discover more about how "protein ATG8ylation" works. The big question is still "why?" "ATG5 is dispensable for ATG8ylation of cellular proteins" tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

New paper up on bioRxiv biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… Awesome work from @Devika_An demonstrating what types of tethering you can reconstitute with GUVs and liposomes in vitro. She also shows that Atg11 can bind some membranes and recruit them to Atg32 coated GUVs.

Can you reconstitute tethering using three-color imagining to monitor protein localization at tethering sites in vitro? Yes! Can you distinguish between membrane binding and tethering with a single assay? Yes! Can you monitor tethering in real-time? Yes!

I am very happy our DFCP1 story is out! Since many years, DFCP1 has been used as an omegasome marker, but its function was totally unknown. Here we show that DFCP1 is an ATPase required for selective autophagy. Here are the main points of the paper: 1/8
