100% of my 1st year students used to want to go to medical school. I saw my job as showing them other paths by 4th year... which they were rarely interested in. But that desire has clearly slowed. Noticeably fewer of them want medical careers now, and I can't blame them.

We often say, "human immunity has a humoral/memory disconnect". They use "rogue" but they should have used "hijacked". B cells encountering a persistent HCoV infected cell, will "re-learn" to be suspicious of healthy human receptors and "go rogue". This treatment is a bandaid.

Mutations are random.
Survival in the host is one pressure.
Community immunity is another pressure.
The advantage SARS has is a "borrowed" human ribosome, to be able to shed the tail, then know how to grow it back.
