11 DE JUNIO DE 2026 Al igual que todos los recursos de la isla, el gobierno comunista de Cuba lleva mucho tiempo utilizando la energía como arma, como herramienta tanto de represión como de cleptocracia al servicio del régimen. Mientras que el pueblo cubano ha sufrido escasez de combustible y apagones debido a décadas de falta de inversión en infraestructuras críticas, los líderes comunistas de Cuba han desviado los recursos energéticos para llenarse los bolsillos: revendiendo innumerables barriles de energía escasa en el mercado secundario, acaparando suministros energéticos para sus fuerzas militares, de inteligencia y represivas, y racionando la energía como herramienta de control social. Mientras los cubanos de a pie esperan semanas para repostar sus autos y sufren apagones implacables, la familia Castro vuela en un avión privado, el Gobierno transporta en autobús a falsos manifestantes para montajes publicitarios y el régimen da prioridad al suministro eléctrico en los lujosos hoteles turísticos. Por ello, hoy designo a la empresa estatal cubana de petróleo y gas Unión Cuba-Petróleo (CUPET), cuyos activos clave fueron expropiados ilegalmente a propietarios estadounidenses hace años, de conformidad con la orden ejecutiva (O. E.) 14404 del presidente Trump, de 1 de mayo de 2026. CUPET es designada en virtud de la sección 2(a)(i)(A) de la O. E. 14404, por operar o haber operado en el sector energético de la economía cubana. La Administración Trump seguirá actuando contra la capacidad de Cuba para aprovechar el comercio energético con el fin de promover su agenda corrupta y su aparato de seguridad represivo. Las acciones del Departamento de Estado se llevan a cabo en virtud de la orden ejecutiva (O. Today, I am sanctioning Cuba’s state-owned energy company, Unión Cuba-Petróleo (CUPET), under President Trump’s EO 14404. Cuba’s Communist elites have weaponized energy as a tool of social control and kleptocratic profit. For decades, the regime has stolen and hoarded available fuel — using it for the Castros’ private jet, the security services forces used to repress the Cuban people, to keep empty tourist hotels lit up, and to bus people in for fake protests and political stunts — all while the Cuban people have suffered blackouts and waited weeks to fill their cars. President Trump wants a new future for the Cuban people with greater economic and political freedom and opportunity. Until then, we will continue to target the Communist regime’s ability to leverage its energy trade to further its corrupt agenda and violently repress the Cuban people.

In South Florida, I've seen firsthand the devastating impact financial scams can have on seniors and their families. Today, I joined @RepCasten to introduce the Stop Crypto ATM Scams Act to crack down on fraud, strengthen safeguards, and help stop scammers from targeting seniors through crypto ATM scams. They earned their retirement. We have a responsibility to protect it.
