Millions of UC claimants are in work. Universal Credit was specifically designed to support low-paid workers that's why it replaced Working Tax Credit. The actual claimant count, people on UC who are required to seek work is 1.69 million. Not 8.4 million. The other 6.7 million are working, disabled, caring for children, or being transferred from legacy benefits. "1 in 5 people relying on benefits" is not what the data shows. It's 1 in 5 people in a system that also supports people in work, people who are sick, and people who are carers. Words matter when you're talking about millions of people.
