Three leaders. Three completely different incentives on the Iran deal. Trump needs a deal fast, oil supplies are hitting a crunch point and inflation is climbing. Netanyahu is facing an October election and doesn't want any deal that leaves Iran's nuclear capacity intact. And Iran's new leader can't be seen backing away from anything his predecessor fought for. The result: a negotiation where not everyone at the table wants the same outcome. Robust discussion on Capitol Hill today as #SCSPTech hosted "Beijing Security Conference: Evaluating How the Axis of Disruptors Are Seeing the World in the Age of AI," a simulation exercise produced by @ForeignPolicy Magazine and moderated by Andrew Sollinger. Bringing together 34 leaders from government and industry, the exercise challenged participants to assess a scenario in which China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea coordinate the predatory dumping of AI, robotics, and biopharmaceutical technologies to undermine competitors and gain strategic footholds around the world—and to identify how the United States and its allies could anticipate, deter, and respond. Thank you to the Office of @SenToddYoung for collaborating with us and to @biotech_gov for their support.

The US leads in quantum computing, but a new SCSP report says that lead is narrowing faster than most realize. SCSP just released Quantifying the Competition, the latest in our Tech Scorecard series, assessing the full US-China quantum landscape across computing, sensing, and networking. Here's what the data shows: 🇺🇸 The US maintains a slight overall lead, driven by: — Innovation output — Software and hardware performance — Private capital investment 🇨🇳 But China is executing a coordinated, state-backed strategy and has moved faster in: — Quantum networking — Deployment at scale — Advanced materials research The bottom line: quantum technologies are dual-use with direct implications for national security and economic competitiveness. The US is still ahead, but not by enough to be comfortable. Read the full report 👇scorecard.scsp.ai/publicatio… #Quantum #NationalSecurity #TechScorecard #USChina #QuantumComputing

Last week, #SCSPTech's Quantum Commission convened a productive working group meeting on informatics, examining the future of quantum software, algorithms, and networking. Participants shared expertise on the opportunities and challenges across the quantum software ecosystem, from commercialization to sustaining U.S. leadership. As global competition intensifies, building the full quantum stack—not just better hardware—will be critical to securing long-term economic and national security advantages.

Today on #NatSecTech@JeanneMeserve sat down with Angela Sheffield, Director of AI Strategy for Energy at @AccentureFed, live at the #AIExpoDC to discuss the Department of @ENERGY's Genesis Mission — a bold effort to harness AI and compress scientific discovery from decades to mere years. Drawing on her experience as a national lab scientist, military officer, and DOE program manager, Sheffield explains how connecting data across the national laboratories could unlock everything from critical mineral independence to next-generation nuclear reactors, and what it will take to deliver a "Manhattan Project 2.0" for American science. 📺 youtu.be/Ayi0D5o6krI?si=c2xe… 🍎 podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas… 🎧 open.spotify.com/episode/33r…

This week, #SCSPTech’s Rama Elluru delivered a message that she's been emphasizing since NSCAI: If America wants to lead in AI and other emerging technologies, intellectual property policy cannot remain an afterthought. Rama sat down with Gene Quinn on the IPWatchdog Unleashed podcast to unpack how AI, patent law, and national competitiveness are colliding. They discuss whether the current U.S. patent system adequately incentivizes AI-related inventions, particularly as generative AI evolves towards more agentic capabilities. Check out the episode now. ipwatchdog.com/2026/06/09/ai…

731,000 job openings were added in April. The labor market is heating up. And yet, the jobs aren't getting filled. SCSP's Ryan Carpenter and Veronica Jijon broke down why on PTB last week, and the answer is more nuanced than the headlines suggest. The skills gap between available jobs and qualified workers is growing. But it's not just about technical skills. It's about AI literacy, and that's almost impossible to measure on a traditional resume or in a monthly jobs report. As Ryan put it: think of it like asking someone if they can read. Of course they can. But at what level? How fast? How well? AI fluency works the same way. it shows up in the quality and speed of your work, not in a checkbox on an application. The broader picture: AI is just one of many factors shaping the economy right now. A war. Trade policy. Hiring cycles. All of it feeding into the same numbers. But the workers and employers who figure out how to close that AI literacy gap fastest are going to have a real edge. Taiwan faces millions of cyberattacks every day. Most of them come from one place. But Taiwan isn't just playing defense. Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs Chia-Lin Yang joined Strait Forward live at the SCSP AI Expo to lay out the full ambition, becoming an AI island built on democratic values: — A Ten AI Initiative to build out the full stack — Closing the gap between dominant hardware and a lagging software ecosystem — Whole-of-society cyber defense against millions of daily attacks from across the strait — AI governance grounded in democratic principles The question isn't whether Taiwan can build the technology. It's whether adoption can scale fast enough to match the ambition. Full episode on our channel 👇 youtube.com/@SCSPAI #Taiwan #AI #CyberSecurity #NationalSecurity #IndoPacific #AIGovernance #Democracy

The bipartisan consensus on AI that has held for years is starting to crack and @AtlanticCouncil 's Tess deBlanc-Knowles says the window to fix it is closing fast. Her argument: Americans are overwhelmingly hearing the negative side of AI. Job loss. Mental health. Disruption. And almost nothing about why adoption matters, what the benefits look like, or why US leadership in AI is in their interest. That narrative vacuum doesn't stay empty. With midterms approaching, it gets filled by politicians, and once AI becomes a partisan issue, the policy environment gets a lot harder to navigate. Her prescription: Government and industry both have to make the affirmative case for AI. Not dismissing fears, meeting people where they are, but actively demonstrating why AI in daily life is worth caring about.
