Back then, there was no electricity, no running water, no healthcare, and no safety net for families like ours. Her mother died when she was just a baby. She was raised by her single father, a quiet, courageous man who carried the burden of her illness with quiet strength and unwavering love. Then came rheumatic heart disease—a cruel, slow thief that nearly stole her future. I first met Sukare during Mission #2. She was gasping for air, still full of hope, even as her heart failed her. She was on our long, heartbreaking waitlist. We saw her again on Mission #3, but once again, we had to say not yet—decisions that still haunt us. I wasn’t sure we’d see her alive again. But she survived. She waited. She held on. And this July, on Mission #4, she finally received what she had waited years for: a new chance at life.
