This chart might look political, but it’s really about data science. The UK can rank great or poorly depending on the KPIs you choose. Our choice of data decides how we view reality.

hi @Betterhelpers , My son is 18 months old and on oxygen 24x7. I would like to take him to Rivermead. What sessions will we be able to attend? Do you have any sessions for children with additional needs?

My 1 year old son is fed through a tube 3 x day and before each feed you need to pull out some of his stomach contents and test its pH to be sure that the tube has not moved to his bronchial system. It sounds worse than the reality. Interesting others' experiences are similar.

Before I had a stoma I found them terrifying, even disgusting. The reality is totally different. It's easy to manage and at times I forget I've got it. I wish I'd heard from someone before my op, to reassure me, so I was delighted to go on BBC News last night to talk about it.

Sorry to learn of the death of George Alagiah. My grandmother thought he was the most handsome man ever. Well into her eighties she could wax lyrical on his beauty for a good 5 minutes.

Fascinating thread on keeping legacy technology symbols to help us understand labels and signage today.
Have you ever noticed that the save icon is a floppy disk, even though they became obsolete twenty years ago? That's called a "skeuomorph" - when something new takes on the appearance of what it replaced. And once you start to look, they're everywhere...

Well this certainly Brexit worth it. 😭
British trawlers will be able to catch 30,000 more tonnes of fish after new deal in 2023 with @eu. A positive benefit of Brexit

It's great that the @EHRC has made this guidance available but the fact it is needed shows that schools don't understand the Equality Act. How can schools make lawful, fair policies in all areas of equality, if they are so clueless on a fundamental piece of legislation?
Fantastic to see @EHRC taking action on this! “Every child deserves to be celebrated for who they are and to thrive in school without having to worry about changing their appearance to suit a potentially discriminatory policy.” theguardian.com/education/20…

Analysis of the tax cut using HMRC data. Steady yourself. It's worse than you think.
I think people haven’t yet priced in exactly who gains from abolishing the 45p rate… This isn’t about cuts for people on £150k, or even £200k. Most of the gain goes to those *much* higher up. I did some further analysis using HMRC data (with @arunadvaniecon and @Summers_AD) 🧵

When Boris was PM, I was surprised to find myself looking back wistfully to TM's premiership. At least she was not lazy and agree with her politics or not, she had a moral compass. Now I look back wistfully to lazy and self-serving Boris. At least £ was not achieving new lows.
I am no fan of Brexit but having a different view should not be a stackable offence in a pluralistic democracy. Pleased @PaulEmbery won.

Today’s ‘Times’. Thanks for all the kind words of support. Sadly, the entire case - described as a ‘witch-hunt’ by the judge - has cost @fbunational an awful lot of money and a mountain of bad publicity. General secretary Matt Wrack should have stood down over it.

This is tragic. When I did mech eng in the late nineties, my demanding course was something like 50:50. The general feeling seemed to be that fewer women overall wanted to do mech eng than men, but those that did were often better. We don't seem to have advanced. Perhaps reversed

‘I hear horror stories from young Stemettes who go to open days and find academics are surprised they’ve turned up at the engineering department. They say “You’ve come to the wrong building” or “You’ll be the only one in physics — girls don’t do well”’ thetimes.co.uk/article/80861…
I love a night train since travelling around Europe on them as a teenager to save the cost of hotels.
"The Night Sprinter network would be a European grid of night trains that would consist of 40 international long-distance lines. By 2030, it would connect more than 200 cities from #Lisbon to #Helsinki." Part of the "flight-free movement" growing across Europe.

And we haven't even started to work out how we will cope with less energy this winter, irrespective of price subsidy.
not saying that financial markets are jittery about Truss plans for £30bn-plus tax cuts while spending £150bn on energy rescue plan - but sterling hit a 37-year low against US$ today
