How do genes that keep melanocytes alive affect #melanoma? Using a #zebrafish line with mitfa-driven Cas9, researchers show that knocking out survival genes can sometimes fuel more aggressive tumour traits. elifesciences.org/reviewed-p…

Now out in @elife, @SarahPerlee’s Ph.D. work developing a powerful way to knock genes out in #melanocytes and #melanoma cells. She created #zebrafish that allow for efficient CRISPR editing, and found unexpected things about genes required for these cells to thrive: elifesciences.org/articles/1…

Excited to share my PhD work, now out in @eLife! 🐟 We developed a mitfa:Cas9 knock-in zebrafish line for lineage-specific genome editing, enabling in vivo screening for gene function in melanocytes and melanoma cells. Read more here: elifesciences.org/articles/1…

Our new paper on electrical signalling between skin cells in #melanoma is out at @CD_AACR – check it out! bit.ly/45qjd37. Before I get to the science, I want to highlight some really special things about @MohitaTagore, and how her innate curiosity made it happen.

Phenomenal paper by an incredibly talented postdoc! I learned so much from working with @MohitaTagore on this project.
Delighted to share that my postdoctoral work is now online @CD_AACR Here we show a novel form of electrical activity based cell-cell communication in the melanoma microenvironment, and identify GABA as the mediator of this communication.

Grateful beyond words for the incredible support and guidance I received from my PhD mentor @whitefishlab and previous mentors @Armstrong_dfci @thali_lab among many others in helping me secure the F31 award! So excited to continue my research journey with this funding.
It's always nice when someone smart, creative and kind gets good news - congrats to @SarahPerlee for her F31 award from the @theNCI! Despite a pandemic, a lab move and project evolution, she stuck with it all the way. She's an amazing geneticist who truly deserves this!

Do you like development, regeneration, cancer? If so, come join us for a postdoc @Oxford. A love of #zebrafish helps, but we also like human #iPS cells. You can come and work on pretty much whatever you find interesting. Send me a message if interested.
