@LewishamCouncil is systematically felling our historic, mature street trees. Healthy, majestic trees that have stood for 100 years or more. Trees that have created havens for all manner of wildlife and organisms. Not to mention, the polluting particles they trap. Why? Money.

Shame on @LewishamCouncil wanting to fell this mature plane tree because it would cost more to keep it. Just to put a crane in place for one weekend. Have they put the eco-system services and amenity value of the tree into their calculations?

Great news! Southwark Highways is now proposing a repair of the footbridge that retains the oaks trees.
They will be consulting on this in May/June with a view to the work starting in the autumn, after the bird breeding season.

24 hrs left to save our plane #tree - have received notice that the council will fell the 90 yr old tree on Tuesday. We have been fighting this since June - and have very little further information as to why the felling is necessary, other than the insurance company demands it.
