Samira fabas podding up & still green on heavy clay soils at Alleena. Despite the dry spring, stored soil water full stubble retention paying off. Fantastic ryegrass control crop comp (sowthistle, fleabane) on 195mm rows. Grub spray to come croptop & windrowing 👍

5t/ha DM (50-60 cm deep) vetch in rice layout . 1st photo 10th Aug, day of initial knockdown.
Double knocked-7 days.
2nd photo 13th September (5 weeks).
Amazing how the vetch becomes brittle and reduces.
Plan drill seed rice in 3 weeks.

Faba beans are always a strong indicator of any aluminium at depth. April sown fabas patchy & struggling to nodulate whilst other areas look good. Ideal time to start 5cm pH testing to check for an acid throttle & guide lime requirements.
