Mass poisoning of community dogs reported from Aastha Green Society, Greater Noida West. At least eight small puppies have allegedly been targeted. Medical records of a 4 month old puppy taken to the clinic confirm severe symptoms including hyperthermia (103.4°F), lethargy, and swelling in the throat and mouth region, with a documented history of poisoning. There’s a man in southwest China accused of pretending to adopt dogs, then turning that trust into an abuse case so ugly people gathered outside his apartment for days. Police in Chongqing say Li, 39, lied about wanting to take in dogs, then harmed them, with some dogs not surviving. Three dogs found at his home were taken for treatment and shelter. On June 10, police put him under administrative detention under China’s public security law. That’s the part that made people angrier: animal advocates wanted a criminal case, but China still has no national companion-animal cruelty law.

To all those who thnk that taking the law in one's own hands will have no consequences. The Supreme Court has not allowed the wanton culling or ad hoc removal of dogs, and any sort of cruelty to a dog or any other animal remains a punishable offence. Blaming systemic failures on those who cannot speak for themselves or indulging in knee-jerk reactions based on a few heartbreaking incidents will neither improve the situation nor solve the problem. 1. To @LalanSingh_1 The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act was enacted in 1960. In 2026, India is still effectively operating under a law 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. A fine that can be as low as ₹10 for animal cruelty is a 𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲, not a deterrent. Your own ministry received the long-awaited draft amendments to the PCA Act in 2022. Four years later, those amendments still remain unimplemented while animals continue to suffer and die every day. Citizens who defend animals and fulfill their constitutional duty under Article 51A(g) are facing 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀, 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Across the country, animals continue to be subjected to cruelty, exploitation, and killing, while meaningful legal reform remains stalled. At the same time, India continues to be among the world's largest exporters of buffalo meat, and animals continue to be sacrificed in the name of tradition and superstition, despite Article 51A(h) calling upon citizens to develop a scientific temper, humanism, and the spirit of inquiry and reform. A minister entrusted with animal welfare should be leading reform, strengthening protections, and standing with the vulnerable 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗲𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀.
