Israel has been ethnically cleansing parts of Syria, as it has done the same in Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza. A Drop Site News report documents how Israel has seized land in southwest Syria's Quneitra since Assad's fall on December 8, 2024e xpelling residents, demolishing homes, and conducting ,arrest raids.
Mohammed Al-Ali, 50, was evicted from Al-Hamidiya that night. "They barely gave us ten minutes to get out." Israel later demolished his home, reportedly because it "blocked sight lines" from a new base. "They stole our home and our life. They stole our memories."
The area is technically a UN buffer zone under the 1974 disengagement agreement, but Netanyahu declared it "collapsed" and sent troops in from the occupied Golan. Israel claims its raids target Hezbollah; officials reject this. "These were areas of the revolution, why would we harbor Hezbollah?" said Mayor Hail Abdullah. A UN report counts at least 250 Syrians arrested since 2024, with 50 still held.
"Israel is running its southern Lebanon model in Quneitra," said Nanar Hawach of the International Crisis Group, while Amnesty International found dozens of demolitions that should be investigated as war crimes. In April 2026, Israel approved 3,000 new Golan settler families by 2030.
Al-Ali, whose grandparents fled the Golan in 1967, refuses to leave: "I was born here and I will die here."
