A lvl 6 character has a personal upkeep of 600gp for a month. That same lvl 6 character could train 4 level 1 characters for a total of 6000gp, in a month. The stance a character runs out of money when a player doesn't play is arbitrary and uses the rules to punish the player.

This whole discussion is retarded. first couple of times we played around with CM RAW we found it sucks donkey dick compared to Advanced Squad Leader so we just used the simple Battle Board from Axis & Allies and turned our big combats in Greyhawk into those types of skirmishes
