New publication! It was a wonderful collaboration with the lab of Juan Del Valle at Notre Dame. This would not be possible without his team and their peptide design. A constrained peptide that binds the Ebola virus matrix protein #ebola#VP40#peptidepubs.rsc.org/en/Content/Arti…
I was very happy our work was chosen to the cover this month. Especially for former postdoc Souad Amiar and collaborator Andrea Marzi

Check out our new preprint! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… We found sphingolipid binding to SARS-CoV-2 M protein controls its conformation to coordinate viral assembly release. Great collaboration with @VothGroup@Stahelin_Lab co-led by @KimDolan_UCB, Mandira Dutta, @souadamiar.
Direct lipid interactions control SARS-CoV-2 M protein conformational dynamics and virus assembly
New preprint in collaboration with the @SteveBrohawn@VothGroup Excellent team effort demonstrating a ceramide-1-phosphate interaction in M! #membranebiorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Very pleased to announce a new review in Virology put together by Ph.D. student Rokaia Sultana. This article details the strenghts and limitations of virus-like particle systems for SARS-CoV-2

For over 35 years, this Science Research Conference (SRC) has presented and integrated advances in phospholipid biology and signaling to foster new national and international collaborative projects. This year’s SRC will continue to encourage and support junior investigators, trainees, women, and minority scientists to pursue phospholipid biology research, ensuring that the study of human diseases relevant to aging remains vigorous. It will also accelerate the translation of fundamental advances into novel clinical treatments through the interactions of basic and clinical researchers.
Presenters will explore all aspects of phospholipids, the major components of biological membranes, which play instrumental roles in guiding cell-to-cell communication and trafficking of nutrients and proteins.
Learn more about how the Ebola virus matrix protein (VP40) dimer is stabilized! A wonderful collaboration with the Wiest and Chapagain labs integrating computational work with in vitro and cellular studies. #ebola#vp40#lipidtime#Virusonlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
Happy this manuscript is published, especially for Ph.D. student Bali Motsa. Demonstrates how 1 or -1 in charge (and more) can alter lipid binding, assembly, and budding of the Ebola virus matrix protein VP40.
