HERE WE GO! @StopKilingGames seems unstoppable now! Despite the constant misrepresentation from industry lobbyists, the demands from the movement have a high chance of leading to actual protection legislation. The latest update: youtube.com/watch?v=CgoODQFr…

Ross has some updates about progress with #StopKillingGames Despite roadblocks we're facing from lobbies like @videogames_eu and @theESA, we're making good progress in California and @Europarl_EN ! @EU_Commission's decision incoming on June 16th. But that will not be the end!
Updates on the Stop Killing Games campaign! The short version is we're in a good position, though it hasn't been easy. youtu.be/CgoODQFrPgw

"We're in a position to pass legislation on this even without the Commission's blessing...EU legislation should be going through either way...We're in a better position than ever to win this...we should be thanking the @EUCommission for making sure we didn't rest on our laurels"

@theESA we are gettin' tired of your lies...
ESA (the lobby) just bullshited about the POG Act being "forever server support" again, and this time its their CEO personally :) Write your state senator why this is bs: Find your State Senator here: findyourrep.legislature.ca.g… Then go to their “Contact Me” page... 👇

The Stop Killing Games movement has pushed back against the Entertainment Software Association's latest criticism of California's Protect Our Games Act (AB 1921), arguing that industry lobbyists are deliberately misrepresenting what the bill actually requires. While the ESA claims the legislation would force companies to support games indefinitely, supporters say the bill only requires publishers to provide a playable version, an end-of-life patch, or a refund when a paid game becomes unusable due to server shutdowns. SKG organizer Moritz Katzner responded: "The bill does not require perpetual server support. It does not require live operations forever." The bill has already cleared California's State Assembly and is moving to the Senate.

🎮 Millions of gamers are fighting back against a practice they say lets companies erase games people already paid for. The Stop Killing Games campaign began after Ubisoft shut down The Crew in 2024, making the online-only racing game completely unplayable. Supporters say publishers should be required to leave games playable offline or provide tools for communities to keep them running after official support ends. The movement has now reached lawmakers in Europe, the U.K., and the U.S., turning a gaming dispute into a wider consumer rights debate.

A group of 45 Members of the European Parliament has formally called on the European Commission to introduce legislation preventing publishers from deliberately making purchased video games unplayable after ending support. In a letter sent to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other senior EU officials, the lawmakers backed the goals of the Stop Killing Games initiative and urged the Commission to present a "concrete legislative proposal" before its official response on June 16. The letter states that failure to act would "send a catastrophic signal to all EU citizens and discredit the instrument of the European Citizens' Initiative as a whole."

PRIME CASE for @StopKilingGames! Several Kingdom Hearts titles will be wiped from Nintendo's cloud service. People paid for these, yet in one year they will be entirely gone. Only "compensation" is a discount, if you wish to buy the games again. support.na.square-enix.com/n…
