Us when we heard we'd been shortlisted for the SMK David & Goliath campaign award! We’re so proud as a small group of residents that we were able to achieve something so unlikely in stopping the MSG Sphere. Recognition from these Awards is a huge honour. smk.org.uk/awards_nomination…

Thanks to @IanJSinclair for this piece chronicling our campaign and the 'decisive role' it played in defeating the MSG Sphere. As he says, we hope it inspires other 'activists working for a better world in 2025'. 'People power 1, corporate power 0.' morningstaronline.co.uk/arti…

Gov. risks the climate & people's health & overrides local democracy: 'burning waste produces the same amount of greenhouse gases for each unit of energy as coal power' yet their plans include new incinerator in Portland despite local council rejecting it. theguardian.com/environment/…

Wow. This was approved quickly. Perhaps MSG found their perfect location - somewhere where they're not required to even pretend to care about local opinion.

First London City Airport, now Stansted. Heathrow and Gatwick next? We have climate deniers at the heart of our Government. The climate change committee has said the industry cannot grow without undermining our emissions goals, and has urged ministers to stop expansion.

NEW: PM at investment summit announces a £1bn deal with Manchester Airport Group to expand Stansted. PM says it open up new routes for work and holiday destinations Starmer says deal the “first of tens of billions worth of inward investment deals that we will sign today, because we're determined to lead the way on growth”

This low capacity junction is why Silvertown can never in fact be a replacement for what Mayor Khan calls the 'antiquated and out of date' Blackwall tunnel. @BBCTomEdwards @RossLydall
The amount of traffic signals at forthcoming northern area of Silvertown tunnel looks enormous when passing on DLR. Here's a render of the mass of roads being built

An entire new bus service to help 60 cyclists, maximum, cross the river per hour (when up to 1000/hour use cycle superhighways). No demand analysis, obviously. Just PR, so they can say something has been done.
Three single-decker buses are to be converted to create a fleet of “bike buses” to transport cyclists through London’s new Silvertown tunnel. standard.co.uk/news/transpor…

But we don’t want more motorways. Or any new roads. We are in a climate crisis. Buses, trams, bike paths etc is what we need

Since 1990, France has built more motorway than the entirety we have in the UK. None of this has cost the French government a centime – private companies fronted the capital, and those driving pay for them through tolls. And their top speed limit is 11mph higher!

Sunday morning. East wind. No Heathrow planes. London City planes haven't started. Waking up to the sound of rain. How refreshing!

George Monbiot argues that Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a great example of a technology that gives the impression of progress, while emissions remain unchecked: “I’m very much in favour of new environmental technologies. I’m very much against their use as substitutes for effective policy.” 1/3 theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Wait, tolls were necessary to disincentivise driving to keep #AirPollution down. Now the tolls are being made cheaper, using ULEZ scrappage money?? What else could £12m be spent on….Cheaper public transport? School Streets? Cleaner buses? #Silvertown standard.co.uk/news/transpor…

What's the point of a consultation on tolls if the Mayor has already decided what will happen before the consultation results are in? As with his decision to build Silvertown, the Mayor is not interested in listening to Londoners - who overwhelmingly told him they didn't want it.

TfL's consultation on charges for the Silvertown Tunnel closes 3 Sep. Suggestions: 1) the @SilvertownTn shouldn't be built 2) if it is, it shouldn't be used for private vehicles, inc. private hire vehicles 3) if it is, black cabs shouldn't be exempt. haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/tc-yo…

Additions: 2) there can be some exceptions e.g. blue badge holders 3) the same reimbursements apply i.e. for particular NHS patients. Taxis are luxury, non-environmentally friendly transport. Electric ones create huge particulate #AirPollution from tyres. theatlantic.com/technology/a…

The same Peter Hendy who, as London Transport boss, greenlighted the disastrous Garden Bridge, wasting £47m of public money on a design team procured without following procedure, and a construction team prematurely contracted before there was an implementable planning permission

Well, well. This is Peter Hendy, now #Labour's rail minister, who until recently was not only the chair of Network Rail but also of the London Legacy Development Corporation, which worked really hard to force the MSG Sphere on us. theguardian.com/business/art…
