🌾 Empowering Women for Resilient Agri-Food Systems 🌾 Women are at the heart of agriculture and food systems across the IGAD region, playing a critical role in food production, processing, trade, and household nutrition. Through the Women Forum on Agri-Food Systems Initiative, IGAD is strengthening women's voices, leadership, and participation in shaping more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable food systems. The initiative provides a platform for women farmers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, researchers, and development partners to exchange knowledge, share innovations, and address barriers that limit women's full participation in the agri-food sector. Key areas of action include: ✅ Promoting women's leadership in agri-food systems
✅ Strengthening access to markets, finance, and technology
✅ Enhancing climate resilience and sustainable agriculture
✅ Supporting women-led enterprises and value chains
✅ Fostering policy dialogue and regional collaboration By advancing gender-responsive approaches to agriculture and food security, IGAD is helping create opportunities for women while contributing to stronger livelihoods, economic growth, and resilient communities across the region. Join us this Friday to discuss on African women’s economic power and commemorate International Women’s Day! 💡 “Give to Gain: Investing in African Women’s Economic Independence.” 🗓️ Friday, 06 Mar 2026 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM GMT 2 (online) Women are central to Africa’s economic future — whether as business owners, entrepreneurs, workers, farmers, or innovators. Across the continent, women are shaping markets, driving growth, and building resilient communities. Did you know? - Women make up roughly 58 % of Africa’s self-employed population, the highest share globally, and contribute about 13 % of the continent’s GDP through entrepreneurship and informal economic activity. - Sub-Saharan Africa leads the world in female entrepreneurial activity, with around 26–30 % of women engaged in business startups or enterprises — significantly higher than many other regions. -In countries like Mozambique and Tanzania, more than three-quarters of women participate in the workforce, showing how women are driving economic participation at scale. But barriers remain: Across the continent, women still face a significant gap in financial inclusion and economic parity, with barriers to formal employment, financing, and equal pay slowing progress. Although legal rights for women have improved in many countries, enforcement and access to financial resources are still lagging — a challenge underscored by recent global reports. That’s why this event matters. What’s on the agenda: 👉 Best practices unlocking women’s economic power from AUDA-NEPAD programmatic activities and across Africa — from access to finance, to scaling enterprises and championing innovation. 👉 Inspiring stories highlighting real impact — women and leaders transforming their communities 👉 Insights on financial resources opportunities — including pathways to funding, support programmes, and strategic partnerships. Women’s economic empowerment isn’t just a goal — it’s a strategic investment in Africa’s sustainable development. When women thrive economically, families flourish and communities prosper. Register now and be part of the conversation: zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_… #GiveToGain #IWD2026 #InternationalWomensDay #Agenda2063 #AWEP
