Department of Biological Sciences, TIFR, engages with diverse aspects of modern biology. We are a vibrant community of 11 faculty and more than 100 researchers.
Our group would be happy to host a DBT-RA in our lab @TIFR_Bio in case there are interested applicants. Our website: tifr.res.in/~dbs/faculty/kou…. Please RT.
Bittersweet moment as we bid farewell to Dr. Kalidas Kohale an extraordinary colleague who built and sustained at the highest standards, one of India’s earliest and largest fish facilities.
His work ethics & discipline has been inspirational! Wishing him the best! @TIFRScience
Interested in exploring quantitative approaches towards understanding how tissues morph into specific shapes and sizes?
Check out @EMBO conference on Quantitative Tissue Morphogenesis organizd by @Sundar_Ram_07 with @Mahen_Son and Maithreyi Narasimha from our dept. @TIFRScience
How do cells form distinct architectural patterns in nature?
In our latest @pnas paper, we show that the convergence of metabolic, polarity, and cytoskeletal signaling pathways orchestrates fingerprint-like microridges on epithelial cell surfaces.

In this @iScience_CP article, we evolve bacterial ETS variants under distinct metabolic constraints to reveal principles of respiratory flexibility and energy homeostasis.

Fumarate and Nitrate supplementation can delay dispersal of mycobacterial biofilms. Very interesting work discussed by @amitesh1anand who shed light on the clinical relevance of the biofilm lifecycle.

ALT Figure 2 - Differential proliferation of upper layer (UL) and deep layer (DL) astrocytes, panels B (left) and C (right). Left: At P5, KI67 immunostaining shows increased proliferation of Ai9 cells in the control UL (10%±1.61) versus the control DL (3%±1.2, **P=0.0054). Right: This is further increased in the mutant UL (17%±1.52, **P=0.002) but not in the mutant DL (3%±1.07, P=0.8).
Glad to be joining the editorial board of @BioMedCentral BMC Microbiology. Looking forward to facilitating publication of some high quality bacteriology research work. @TIFR_Bio@TIFRScience
We concluded another stimulating annual seminar @TIFRScience with some excellent talks, posters, questions and laughter... Real discussion happens on posters--
