Let’s take apart his latest: South Africa was not surrounded by movements dedicated to ending white self-determination. Nelson Mandela was not promising to conquer Pretoria. The ANC was not firing rockets at Johannesburg. South Africans were not watching neighboring states repeatedly try to destroy their country. When Hamas says it wants to destroy Israel, we believe it because Hamas acts on that promise. When Hezbollah says it wants to destroy Israel, we believe it because Hezbollah acts on that promise. When Iran spends billions arming and funding groups dedicated to destroying Israel, we believe it because those groups act on that promise. And when activists insist that the world’s only Jewish state should cease to exist, we are not irrational for asking what comes next. Mehdi wants people to imagine that “dismantling Israel” would look like a peaceful constitutional transition. In the actual Middle East, it would look a lot more like October 7. But then, I think that’s what Mehdi is hoping for.
