It's very hard to narrow down. I prioritized trying to list remarkable anime along different themes rather than just giving my favorites. There are several of my favorites in here, though.
My Core. My Favorites. I havent shared something like this for a while.

You might not think much of outsider filmmakers but the audience just decided that two YouTubers matter and the big IP films didn’t You keep trying to push Sydney Sweeney but the audience wants Inde Naverette

I'm looking at you, Duffer Brothers.
It’s crazy how many directors/creatives at Disney, Marvel, Star Wars etc, worship at the altar of Empire, Raiders, Goonies, E.T., and other movies of their youth that got them into the business and learn nothing from their favorite movies at all visually.

Curry Barker on his upcoming 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' movie for A24 ⛓️ "I want to make a new generation of people scared and give them this feeling of: 'What if you went on a road trip with your friends and this happened to you?' I want to capture the rawness and the grounded-ness of the original" "I wouldn’t be interested if I didn’t think I could find a way in that feels fresh and new, while still respecting the original. The canon itself is all over the place, so there’s not much to stay loyal to other than the original" He watched all 10 films in the franchise to prepare for developing it: "Some of those movies just turn out to be a guy with a chainsaw chasing a person around. It doesn’t work to just have a chase movie. They’re hiding in a barn. It gets old. And I don’t buy it — a chainsaw is loud but they don’t hear it? I hate when you’re watching a movie and you’re thinking, “Just do this [instead]" (via @THR)

I write horror, not 'black' stuff. But how does being a POC affect my (and other) voices? 1. I notice the 'little' people. 2. I don't like stupid characters or frat boy antics 3. Violence isn't a throwaway thing 4. I don't relate to most tropes a thread

Point #3 is something I feel so strongly about. Our society loves violence but hates consequences, and this shows up in our media. Even people who say they don't like violence most likely are just saying they don't like the consequences.

The amazing digital circus is for human hogs that roll around in mud. If you ain't a hog you ain't a fan.

I’ve said this, but creating art that genuinely resonates with people requires you to be at least a little emotionally vulnerable And conservatives have spent the last 40 odd years declaring emotions as beta shit for gays and women

Conservatives don't know how to make good cartoons because making a good cartoon requires you to be a little weird and woke and have a soul. That's why bullshit like Chimptopia and The New Norm exist and then die. They have none of that.

Yes; welcome to another cinematically exaggerated episode of, "Life Isn't Fair". The situation is a tragic. The movie is a tragedy. Everyone suffers. Sometimes it be like that.
Can we talk about how Sarah is the real tragedy of #Obsession, while everyone else is completely ignoring her? She genuinely liked Bear for who he was, way before any supernatural curses got involved. But instead of paying attention to a girl who actually valued him, Bear ignored her to chase a brainwashed fantasy of Nikki. And Sarah's reward for being a good coworker? Getting her face brutally smashed in with a brick by a possessed Nikki. Sarah was total collateral damage for Bear’s toxic entitlement. If you are more worried about Bear or Nikki than the absolute horror of what happened to Sarah, your priorities are totally backwards #Obsession #bear #sarah #nikki

Empathy is not an inherently positive thing. It’s also quite dangerous and can be used for some pretty dark purposes. To me, the only worthwhile reading of Disclosure Day, especially its ending, is one not of embracing, but one of warning. But idk what that says about me….

It's sweet to see Kane Parsons overtaking Star Wars/George Lucas in the cinematic zeitgeist for a minute, till we realize that in 40 years he'll also take the mantle of pissing off all his fans by selling out to Disney so his grandkids can giggle on a Backrooms rollercoaster

This is my personal grand narrative for everything that went down. People in the audience and in the industry felt that it could shift the paradigm, and they did not want it to succeed for that reason. Most non-standalone CBMs since then have been *mostly* MCU-adjacent.
A very underrated rendition of Superman that dared to be different from the Marvel formula and got shit on for it.

The worst thing to happen to movie discourse is that we started talking about movies like shareholders instead of audiences. Every conversation is opening weekend projections, break-even points, and whether it “flopped.” Did it move you? Did it challenge you? Did you connect with it? We barely talk about that anymore. Yes at the end of the day this is a business; however, the point of ART is not to make money, but to make us feel something. Case and Point: Blade Runner 2049

Everyone knows fandom is the pits. Reject fandom.
All I'm getting from the whole "are you a fan if you dont play games" or whatever thing is that we need to kill fandom culture permanently. This discourse would not happen if not for fandom, we need to abolish the concept of fandoms and fanbases for good, this shit's a poison
