Was feeling like I needed something uplifting and pure after today’s vote so I turned on Planet Earth 3, which I’ve never seen. The first scene is a group of seals teaming up to chase off a great white shark. If that isn’t a metaphor right now, I don’t know what is.

When Valadao voted for the #ACA repeal, which included Medicaid cuts that hit his district hardest, maybe it was the influence of Speaker McCarthy from the contiguous district. But he lost his seat over that vote. And knew this budget's impacts, given all the letters he signed.

One confounding thing is why Rep Valadao walked the plank in a 64% Medicaid district if his vote wasn't even needed to pass the bill? He must really just love to kill people

This was a lie. David Valadao turned his back on over half a million Central Valley residents in his district who rely on Medi-Cal, and the rural hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and more who receive more than 50% of their funding from Medicaid.

Again, @RepDonBacon, you know this isn’t true: a clinic in your own state just announced they’re closing because of the Medicaid cuts you’re voting for: klkntv.com/rural-southwest-n…
Healthy adults who work are protected under this bill.

.@RepDavidValadao, @RepYoungKim & all 7 CA Republicans showed us where their loyalties lie: Not with their constituents who will lose health care Not with hospitals facing closure Not with families who rely on SNAP for food assistance But with their wealthy donors - period.
⁉️@RepDavidValadao & @RepYoungKim promised they would vote no on any proposal that threatened to close rural hospitals & increase the cost of care for working people, but that’s exactly what they voted for. This bill won't make America great—only sicker, poorer & closer to death.

The House passed the #BigUglyBill that will cut Medicaid & fund family separations while making the ultra-rich richer. @KenCalvert @RepDavidValadao @RepYoungKim voted for this bill. Here's some of what's in it. #BigBeautifulBill #ItPassed #Illegal #KidsHealth #ProtectOurCare

They did not get any changes in this bill after it came back to the House. Zero. The bill that they criticized as horrible is the bill that they will be voting on -- and many of them voting for -- this afternoon.

There it is - from Norman: "We held out as long as we could and made the changes we knew we could make." This bill was always going to pass. Changes could be made here and there (A.I., wind and solar, amounts of tax breaks) but the bulk of this was always going through.

On policy, Valadao's Central Valley district is 2/3 depending on Medicaid coverage. On politics, he literally lost his election after voting to repeal the ACA. On process, he sent a letter last week against the Senate bill, seeking changes. He has every reason to vote no.
NEW -- DAVID VALADAO has voted YES on the rule. It's now 208-216 with eight still outstanding.

Watching a news quad-box, as I often do when there’s a big vote happening. Very disappointed that fox is the only one covering the reconciliation vote

REMINDER: This is a critical procedural vote for the OBBBA ("Big Beautiful Bill Act). It is the rule allowing for the bill to come up and get an up or down vote. If this fails, the GOP can hold another rule vote another time. But they may have larger problems. (Or not.)

The U.S. Senate just voted to pass the big ugly bill—a bill that rips almost a trillion dollars way from #Medicaid, while also making major policy changes with little oversight. It's our last chance to stop it—tell House Representatives: VOTE NO. bit.ly/NOBigUglyCuts

House Republicans are anxious and frantic. Will their fretting translating into actual action though? Your constituents don't care about how many letters you sign onto, they care how you vote. politico.com/live-updates/20…

The @Fight4OurHealth coalition is outside @RepDavidValadao’s office again today, pleading with him to vote no on the big, ugly bill passed by the U.S. Senate this morning; because cutting health care is UNPATRIOTIC. #ProtectMedicaid #FightForOurHealth

Incredible stuff from @HawleyMO here. If he doesn’t like this bill that does exactly what he claims to be against, he should call his senator and ask him to vote no.
Sen. Hawley, now a YES on ‘Big, Beautiful Bill,’ says Rs have a “lot of thinking to do” on Medicaid. “We can't be cutting healthcare for working people and for poor people in order to constantly give special tax treatment to corporations,” he told me.
