NUS has moved all of its undergrad recruitment online. As part of this, I spent 3 hours filming on Wednesday for this 2 minute video - but the end result is really pleasing. Definitely the most professional looking thing I've done for work! m.youtube.com/watch?v=cCwcDJ…

Out now on BiorXiv, doi.org/10.1101/2024.08.10.6… is about the eduWOSM, our advanced optical microscope for educational and resource-limited settings. $9K build cost, compact, open source, super-stable, super-bright, super-controllable, user friendly, easy-to-love, able to do this:

Many thanks to @HFSP for funding most of this work. And Jorge and Sham who did so much to bring it all together.

We provide a clear estimate of the length scale of microtubule interaction in the early drosophila embryo.

We utilise Ivo's great explant system to make clean and quantitative measurements. This is backed up by theoretical modelling of the aster interactions with boundaries and each other.

We show that in the drosophila early embryo, microtubule asters interact through an effective pushing interaction.

The eduWOSM is our open source microscope for education and resource-limited settings. We now have a YouTube channel to explain what it is, what it can do, how it works, and how to work it youtube.com/channel/UCmOak4b…

Really happy to see this out: journals.biologists.com/dev/… We use FCS to reveal that Bicoid dynamics vary spatially across the Drosophila embryo. We demonstrate this can explain previous observations about gradient extent and time scale of formation.

Happy New Year from the British government. Just sad.
From today, the majority of foreign university students cannot bring family members to the UK. In 2024, we’re already delivering for the British people.

Ok. This is an absolute #breakthrough and #tourdeforce by @steinaerts lab. Designing functional enhancers has been a dream of the scientific community for decades. Now AI fed with the right data cracked the cis regulatory code. Respect 🤠➡️🎩

Excited to share the lab’s very first pre-print (!!) where we describe a new tunable hybrid hydrogel system and discover ECM-specific cues that regulate cardiac aging. Check it out!👇 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… Tweetorial follows... (1/8)

(Sad maths-rugby crossover joke). Why does the harmonic series converge in Ireland? Because they can't get past a quarter. (As a Welsh fan, yesterday was not a good day either 😭)
