Wreckers make the headlines, the people make the place - & today the people of Belfast really showed up. I keep thinking of Anna Lo, what she would have thought of all of this. One thing I know for sure is she would have loved the city gathering to reaffirm our common humanity 💛

Violence is never the answer. This morning @PaulaJaneB & I met some residents & business owners in Sandy Row who are understandably distressed. We need de-escalation & accountability - not more destruction.

As the PSNI look at CCTV footage over the next days and weeks there will be doors knocked and lives changed and not for the good criminal records and futures ruined.

I’m heartbroken this morning. How can rioting and inflicting fear on innocent people, burning houses, buses…how does this help the victim of the sickening knife attack? How does it help the PSNI to gather evidence and build a case against the perpetrator of the attack?

To those saying "But they're illegal now": they are, but that doesn't give PSNI a power of immediate seizure. Current law requires a warning first, which is what this addresses.
Causing a nuisance? Your vehicle will be seized with immediate effect if this amendment becomes law.

Dangerous e-scooters and scramblers are putting people’s lives at risk.
That’s why @NualaMcAllister is cosponsoring a cross-party amendment to strengthen the PSNI’s powers, allowing police to seize these illegal vehicles when driven dangerously.
