When the pandemic comes, the youth aren't just waiting around—we are ready to lead and serve. Proud to see the BPRC project putting communities and young changemakers at the center of health response. Our energy, innovation, and action are what make health systems resilient. 🇷🇼
When the Next Pandemic Comes, Communities Will Be the First Responders: Inside the BPRC Project Launch From 02 to 04 June 2026, @RwandaNGOForum is honored to join @eannaso , @ahfrwanda , and @RBCRwanda in convening stakeholders for the launch of the Building Pandemic-Ready Communities (BPRC) Project to be implemented in Rwanda and Sierra Leone. Rwanda and Sierra Leone were selected for the Building Pandemic-Ready Communities (BPRC) project because they represent highly informative public health landscapes in Africa, offering unique lessons in structural resilience and historical outbreak management. The event brought together civil society organizations, community groups, and public health actors to strengthen collaboration and advance community-led approaches to Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPR). The workshop aims to provide a valuable platform for learning, dialogue, and experience sharing on outbreak preparedness, risk communication and community engagement, community-based surveillance, infection prevention and control, and emergency coordination. Discussions highlighted the critical role communities play as frontline actors during public health emergencies and the importance of strengthening their engagement in building resilient health systems, empowering them for effective detection, assessment, reporting, response, and long-term recovery. Through partnerships such as these, we continue to support efforts that empower communities with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to prevent, detect, and respond to health threats. Together, we can foster stronger, more informed, empowered, and pandemic-ready communities across Rwanda and beyond. Strengthening pandemic preparedness starts with empowered communities. #BPRC #PandemicPreparedness #CommunityEngagement #LetCommunitiesLead #HealthForAll

Young people deserve a world where periods are met with dignity, not shame. 🩸 Breaking menstrual stigma starts with honest conversations, education, and equal access for every girl and young woman. Periods are natural, and menstrual health is a right for all. #EndPeriodStigmaRw
Menstrual health is a right, not a taboo. 🩸Menstruation is a natural and healthy part of life experienced by millions of women and girls worldwide. It is not a disease, a curse, or something to be hidden. Yet, many girls and women still face stigma, discrimination, and misinformation that limit their access to the knowledge, products, and support they need to manage their periods safely and with dignity. Menstrual health is a human right. Every girl and woman deserves access to accurate information, affordable menstrual products, clean water, adequate sanitation facilities, and supportive environments at home, in school, at work, and within the community. When we challenge myths and break the silence surrounding menstruation, we empower girls and women to participate fully in education, leadership, and everyday life without fear, shame, or exclusion. Let us raise our voices to normalize conversations about menstruation, end period stigma, and advocate for menstrual equity for all. Together, we can build a future where every girl and woman is respected, supported, and empowered to thrive. ✨ Menstruation is natural. ✨ Periods are normal. ✨ Dignity is non-negotiable. ✨ Menstrual health is a right, not a taboo. #PeriodFriendlyWorldRw #EndPeriodPovertyRw #EndPeriodStigmaRw #EndTheStigma #MenstruationMatters #EndPeriodPoverty #PeriodPositive #WeAreCommitted

Innovation is transforming the fight against malaria. New tools, vaccines, and strong programs are saving lives, and countries like Rwanda are making real progress. Yet malaria still threatens millions, especially in Africa. When funding drops, it returns quickly and costs lives. Let’s sustain funding, protect communities, and end malaria. Now we can. Now we must. #ZeroMalaria #WorldMalariaDay2026 #YouthAgainstMalariaRw
Ending malaria in our lifetime is possible. We now have better tools, and countries are making real progress. But this progress can be lost. When funding decreases, malaria returns and children die. Today is #WorldMalariaDay 2026 To mark #WorldMalariaDay in #Rwanda has coincided with the monthy national community work (#UMUGANDA) held in @KicukiroDistr, @gahanga_sector, Kagasa Cell. @RwandaNGOForum has joined @RwandaHealth/@RBCRwanda and #malaria stakeholders, including fellow CSOs colleagues @Sfrwanda1, @InterfaithRda, @sfhRwanda, @CaritasRwanda, @ASOFERWA2, @ProfemmesTH, partners @AbbottNews, @JhpiegoRwanda, @expertisefrance/@EF_LINITIATIVE and @KicukiroDistr residents. @KicukiroDistr has been selected to host #WorldMalariaDay given their #malaria epidemiological context. Between July 2025 and March 2026, @KicukiroDistr recorded 65,000 #malaria cases, corresponding to 7% of the national #malaria incidence rate. @gahanga_sector alone accounted for 15,000 of those cases. Those alarming numbers show that we still have a huge work to be done in #malaria response, but the local response, through environmental management activities, is encouraging. Community Health Workers (#CHWs) are the frontline healthcare providers, through #malaria home-based management (#HBM), managing half of all malaria cases in #Rwanda. In a major step forward and to support their incredible work, #CHWs are now receiving smartphones from @RwandaHealth. This means they can finally drop the burden of filling out 14 different paper registers and shift entirely to digital reporting. Further to that, #Rwanda is also stepping up the medical fight as the first country to initiate Multiple First-line Therapies (#MFT) in Africa to combat Coartem resistance. Communities are encouraged to combine this advanced treatment with everyday #malaria control strategies, such as environmental management, daily use of mosquito nets, and targeted indoor residual spray (IRS), seeking medical care to the nearby CHW, home-based sanitation and hygiene. Apart from #UMUGANDA, #WorldMalariaDay has featured #malaria testing and treatment activities by #CHWs, and official launch of long-lasting insecticidal nets (#LLINS) distribution in #malaria endimic sectors, starting with @gahanga_sector. Defeating #malaria requires everyone. The Ministry of Health (@RwandaHealth) is working closely with local communities, local government, health workers, the private sector, security organs, and the media. It is a shared responsibility to keep our homes clean and our families safe. #KuranduraMalariyaBiheraKuriNjye #ZeroMalariaStartsWithMe #EndMalaria #TurandureMalaria @RwandaLocalGov @GlobalFund @ALMA_2030 @PMIgov @FightingMalaria @TheENDFund @endmalaria @MalariaNTDcorps @MalariaNoMore @beatmalaria @cvamUg @COR_NTD @LogNTDs_Africa @WHORwanda @Rwanda_CCM @CityofKigali @unicefrw @nsanzimanasabin @CMuvunyi @BrianChirombo @TuyishimeAlbert @DMbituyumuremyi @Knooliet

Despite strong progress, malaria remains a challenge in Rwanda and across Africa. 🌍 As youth and partners we must stay committed to raising awareness and protecting our communities. Let’s keep pushing for a malaria-free future!
Malaria is still a major health problem in the world, causing millions of cases and many deaths each year. According to the @WHO reports, about 95% of malaria cases occur in Africa. Rwanda has made strong progress in reducing malaria, but the disease is still present, with many cases reported every year. Even if Rwanda contributes less than 1% of global cases, it remains part of the most affected region. This shows that progress must continue. Sustained funding and action are needed to control and eliminate malaria. As youth, and other partners like, @RBCRwanda, @RwandaNGOForum, @ALMA_2030, @Knooliet, @MalariaNoMore.... we also have a role to play by raising awareness, supporting prevention, and contributing to the fight against malaria in our communities. #ZeroMalariaStartsWithMe #EndMalaria #YouthAgainstMalariaRw #KuranduraMalariaBiheraKuriNjye @RwandaHealth @nsanzimanasabin @BrianChirombo @EricNiyongira1 @TungaChristian @SCJohnson @UNITAID @TargetMalaria @harerimana_tito @noellashyaka @kemnique

Yesterday in @BugeseraDistr, we joined community members alongside @RBCRwanda, with support from @TheENDFund, to mark the awarding ceremony of the WASH Sector-Based Competitions, which brought together all 15 sectors of the district. This initiative recognized outstanding commitment to improving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), while advancing social and behavior change to address diseases linked to poor sanitation. @RuhuhaBugesera was recognized as the best-performing sector, reflecting strong leadership, active community engagement, and visible progress in sanitation, hygiene, and environmental cleanliness. Across all sectors, simple but life-saving practices such as proper latrine use, handwashing with soap, safe water handling, and maintaining a clean environment are proving critical in preventing Neglected Tropical Diseases, including Schistosomiasis (SCH) and Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH). Beyond recognition, the competitions strengthened behavior change through community platforms and peer learning. By showcasing the best-performing sectors as models, the initiative is inspiring sustained action and supporting Rwanda’s efforts to eliminate SCH and STH through scalable, community-led WASH initiatives. #BeatNTDs #EndNTDs2030 #WASHAgainstNTDs #CleanWaterFightsNTDs #Act4NTDs #InvestInNTDs #UmuturageKuIsonga #IsukuHose

No one should be left behind in healthcare. #KnowTheLawOwnYourHealthRw #HealthyAdolescentsRw
🌟Know the Law. Own Your Health. Did You Know You Can You Make Your Own Health Decisions?🤔 Understanding your rights is the first step toward protecting your health. Rwanda’s new law regulating healthcare services introduces important changes that directly affect adolescents, especially when it comes to making decisions about their own health. This campaign aims to break down these provisions in a simple and relatable way so that young people are informed, confident, and empowered. One of the key highlights of the law is the age of consent for accessing healthcare services. Adolescents aged 15 and above can now access healthcare services, including sexual and reproductive health services, without needing parental consent. This provision recognizes that young people need timely, confidential, and safe access to healthcare, and it removes barriers that previously prevented many from seeking the services they need. Knowing this right is essential for every young person. It means you have a voice in your health decisions and the ability to seek care without fear or stigma. As we start this campaign, we invite you to learn, and share this information, because when you know the law, you can truly own your health. #KnowTheLawOwnYourHealthRw #HealthyAdolescentsRw

This is exactly where the shift happens. We’ve seen firsthand that when young people take the lead, the message sticks because it’s rooted in their own reality. Jean-Claude isn't just "learning"—he’s leading. The impact on community is undeniable when the youth own the narrative
Watching primary school students lead #Bilharzia (#schistosomiasis) awareness among their peers is one of the most powerful reminders of why community-led, centered, and driven prevention interventions work. #JeanClaude didn’t just make a poster, he communicated a public health message, in his own words and in his own handwriting. That’s health literacy. That’s the kind of early empowerment that doesn’t just prevent #Bilharzia (#schistosomiasis); it builds the next generation of health experts. Research consistently shows that school-based #schistosomiasis education accelerates behavior change far beyond what adult-targeted campaigns achieve alone. When children become educators, the message reaches households, siblings, and communities that formal health systems often sideline. #JeanClaude is not just a student in primary school. He is a future poster presenter, at national forums, at global health conferences, on stages that shape policy. @EricNiyongira1 @TungaChristian @BertrandByishim: the real question this work raises is: how do we sustain those momentum even beyond the project cycle? Mentorship pipelines? School health champion programs? It’s food for thought. The intervention ends. The empowerment shouldn’t. Well done @BSIRwanda 👏🏾👏🏾 #BeatNTDs #EndTheNeglect #UnitingToCombatNTDs #RoadToElimination #IsukuHose #IrindeBilariziyoze
