2: My comment on work from @Cell_Metabolism showing that MI drives #MASH. The interaction between these two diseases works BOTH ways 👇
What’s the best way to implement the 2-step clinical care pathway for evaluating MASLD? Is it as effective as VCTE for all patients? Check out this paper in J Hep: authors.elsevier.com/sd/arti…. Congrats to @TerryYip12 and the VCTE-Prognosis Study Team! 🎉 #MASLD#ClinicalResearch
A new blood-based biomarker for #MASH has been confirmed in diverse US and Chinese populations. Amazing collaboration among @CUHKMedicine, @UCSDHealth, and Wenzhou Medical University! Read more in Cell Metabolism: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

"Prevalence and prognosis of patients with MASLD-related cirrhosis after an ICU hospitalization in France: A single-centre prospective study" available open access at bit.ly/46hBW2f#livertwitter
ALT In our single-centre study of patients with cirrhosis hospitalized in ICU, we found that cirrhosis related to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) or metALD accounted for more than 1/3 of the cause of liver disease. The prognosis of MASLD patients was similar to that of ALD or metALD patients, although further development of HE was significantly more frequent in MASLD patients.

"Faecal biomarkers for diagnosis and prediction of disease course in treatment-naïve patients with IBD"
#GIwitter
ALT The diagnostic and predictive capability of a number of faecal biomarkers were analysed using a study design including a cohort of new-onset treatment-naive IBD patients and symptomatic controls. The neutrophil proteins myeloperoxidase (MPO) and calprotectin (FC) displayed comparable diagnostic capacities as single markers. Combining FC and MPO resulted in improved diagnostics, indicating that MPO alone or combined with FC may add to the diagnostic power of faecal biomarkers. High values of neutrophil markers FC, MPO and human neutrophil lipocalin (HNL) at diagnosis were predictive of an aggressive disease course in patients with UC, information that can be of value when stratifying new-onset IBD patients.
Patients with covert HE has a higher probability of developing overt HE than patients with other causes of neurocognitive impairment (NI). Read the full paper by Sultanik et al 'open access' at bit.ly/45XWiNP#GItwitter
ALT Out of 123 cirrhotic patients with cognitive complaints, 34% did not display covert HE but another cause of neurocognitive impairment (NI). Patients with covert HE has a higher probability of developing overt HE than patients with other causes of NI.
