The evidence for "no change" for birth cohorts from around 1970 onward is consistent and strong across many datasets. But I think the evidence is also strong for a B-W difference well over 1 SD for birth cohorts from the 1920s into the 1950s. I'm thinking especially of four results from large databases using well-validated test batteries: The ~1.25 SD difference in the AGCT data from WW II inductions (birth cohorts from the 1910s-1927). The ~1.38 SD difference in g on the Project Talent cognitive test (birth cohorts 1942-1946). The 1.21 SD difference on the AFQT in the NLSY-79 sample (birth years 1957–64). The declining B-W difference in the three Woodcock-Johnson standardizations (birth years 1920–91). (aei.org/articles/the-magnitu…) As for the WW I Army Alpha and Beta databases, I have tried and failed to come up calculations that are persuasive in view of a variety of methodological and sampling problems. The AGCT data from WW II are a lot more interpretable. Comments?
