The truth about newsletters in 2025: Growth comes from doing less, not more. The newsletter graveyard is getting crowded. Everyone's chasing more: ā—¼ļø More posts ā—¼ļø More platforms ā—¼ļø More promotion But after building multiple businesses and now working with top creators, I've learned a counterintuitive truth: The best newsletters grow by doing less. They focus on: ā—¼ļø Fewer, better ideas ā—¼ļø Deeper connections ā—¼ļø Sustainable systems I learned this by watching. While building my businesses—from teaching to edtech to serving WFH dads—I studied what worked. That's how I found @patflynn. His approach changed everything: Simple. Strategic. Sustainable. Now I work at @kit with @nathanbarry, and I see the same pattern with every successful creator: They've mastered the art of doing less, but better. Tomorrow, Pat and Nathan share a complete system for building a newsletter that grows—without the overwhelm. This isn't theory. These are battle-tested principles that work.

Want to take more time off next week during Thanksgiving but worried about the mountain of work you’ll come back to? Here’s 5 steps to get organized with work post-vacation: 1. Prepare before you leave: Identify responsibilities that need coverage and delegate them. 2. Upon return, document your to-dos: Create a clear list of priorities—high, medium, and low. 3. Review, don’t react: Resist the urge to start working right away. Review and take inventory first. 4. RE-prioritize once you’ve documented everything: Not everything can be a top priority. Adjust your list based on urgency. 5. Plan your week: Allocate time for each task, focusing on top priorities when your energy is highest. It’s not about doing everything when you get back. It’s about doing the right things.

WFH dads, what’s your speaker situation? I’ve got the PreSonus Eris E3.5 They sound awesome. No complaints. They’ve got bluetooth connection but I just connect them directly to my Rodecaster Pro 2 mixer. What about you?

An underrated cheat code for better health is drinking water before drinking coffee first thing in the morning. Your body doesn't need caffeine upon waking. It needs hydration.

A few months ago, I found myself working late into the night, stressed about projects that weren’t done. I was working longer hours but wasn’t seeing much progress on my important tasks.Ā  My mistake?Ā  Not planning my day effectively. I started spending just 15 minutes each morning to plan and prioritize my tasks.Ā  This typically involved: 1ļøāƒ£ Identifying my most important tasks (MITs) 2ļøāƒ£ Deciding what order to complete them in.Ā  3ļøāƒ£ Setting realistic expectations on what I think I could accomplish 4ļøāƒ£ Scheduling breaks Days I do this, I manage to finish work on time and enjoy my evening with my family. 15 simple minutes of planning can make a significant difference. If you liked this post, and want to see more like it about WFH productivity for dads, make sure to follow my profile @wfhdads.

Working from home has its perks—no commute, more flexibility, more time with family. But there’s one downside that impacts dads in particular. It’s the isolation. It’s tough enough to make friends as a grown man. Add remote work and fatherhood into the mix and isolation can hit hard. The truth is, loneliness doesn’t just affect our mental health. It impacts productivity, relationships, and even how present we are with our kids. Here are 4 simple ways to stay connected to others: 1ļøāƒ£ Join a virtual co-working space A great way to get accountability and share your goals. 2ļøāƒ£ Exercise with others Whether it’s jiu jitsu, running, or a yoga class, moving together builds both fitness and friendships. 3ļøāƒ£ Lunch with a friend Twice a month, make time for a meal with someone you haven't seen in a while. 4ļøāƒ£ Meet weekly with a group of men Whether it’s for faith, work, or just to chat, weekly gatherings can help break the cycle of loneliness. Connection matters. Do you have a way of staying connected as a WFH dad?

Big moment for me recently - I got promoted to blue belt in jiu jitsu. Typically folks get promoted from white → blue within 2 years of starting. Me? It took 7 years. (talk about a flex) I’ve wanted to do a martial art ever since I was a kid getting picked on and beat up at school. When I turned 30, I decided to make it happen. I joined a jiu jitsu school. But I did not pick it up nearly as quickly as I’d hoped. The moves I learned in class never seemed to work when I actually tried them on a resisting opponent. And when I tried to use the same defenses, guys would blow right past them. I even participated in a competition a couple of years in. I lost all 3 matches. I watched people start jiu jitsu YEARS after me, getting promoted to blue, then to purple. All while I remained a white belt. But it wasn’t really about the belt for me though. I wondered: Why is this so hard for me?Ā Ā  Why am I so bad at this? I could have decided that jiu jitsu wasn’t for me. But I love the art. And I want to know that I can defend myself. And I don’t want to quit something just because it’s hard. So I kept showing up day after day, year after year. Here’s to many more years of slowly getting better, no matter the color around my waist. Shoutout to fellow creator / grappler @CoreyWilksPsyD for starting the conversation on my promotion.

WFH dads, do you prefer a physical or digital planner to manage your tasks? I primarily use Notion as my digital task manager hub. But have been experimenting with also writing my top 3 tasks on a note card every day. The note card is easier to reference (and more satisfying to check off). The Notion hub makes sure I keep a pulse on the 12 other less important things I still need to do that day. What about you?

I’m often asked what makes my home office setup look so nice on Zoom calls. Sure the nicer camera and the background lights help. But the secret sauce is the lighting. I’ve got a small light that can get super bright called an Amaran 60d. The umbrella looking thing is a softbox. It diffuses the light which is much more flattering. Would you get a light softbox or do you feel it’s overkill for you?

Next time your wife needs an hour to herself, do this: Take the kids out in a running / walking stroller. You get exercise. The kids get fresh air. Your wife gets some time to herself. ā—¼ļø ā€œWhat if my kids don’t like going in the running stroller?ā€ ------- āŒ Don’t ask : Do you want to go on a run with me? āœ… Ask : What snack and toy do you want on the run? ā—¼ļø ā€œWhat if I’ve got more than two kids?ā€ ------- Put the youngest two in the stroller and have the oldest ride a bike (or run) alongside you. ā—¼ļø ā€œWhat if I don’t have a running stroller?ā€ ------- Get one. I really love the Bob Revolution Flex 3.0 double running stroller. It’s super durable and smooth.

How many weeks do you think the average life span is? 100,000? 1M? It’s 4,000. Here’s what I do every week to remind myself just how limited my time is: I fill out one square on this poster. It’s crazy to visualize your life like this. I’ve marked the weeks my kids were born and the weeks they turn 18. It’s a smaller portion than I realized when I see it like this. Don’t waste your weeks. If you’re a WFH dad, follow for more tips to stay present with your family.
