She has found that well fitting respirator masks allow her child to be out and about, without risking the dangers of either airborne allergens or airborne viruses. 4/

"It's such a simple thing, and if my kids could wear a mask starting when they were toddlers, so can the doctors and nurses in the hospitals. Health care workers should mask at work to prevent the spread of disease, especially to high risk patients." 5/

"Masking up is so essential for our family! Respirators have made our family's quality of life so much better," says Joy Vines, co-author of The FPIES Handbook, shown here in a GVS Elipse Source Control with a colorful cloth cover. 1/

It has to be under 40dB on max. People say, "Oh, it's fine, I'll turn it down," but that doesn't happen; it gets left off. But if you try to sell a 40dB purifier, the CADR is lower than the unusable louder model, and no one wants it. So they get the loud one, and it either gets turned off or set to a lower power that actually offers less CADR for the noise level than the model with the fans purpose-built to run quiet all the time.
it’s so fucking outrageous how common it is for medical facilities to have their air purifiers not in use—so often i have to turn on or first plug in these long-abandoned tools for cleaning the air. this timeline is committed to misery.

We must be crystal clear about a few points. Long Covid is not a "poorly understood neuroimmune disorder" with no biomarkers. It is a widely studied biological medical condition. Pathology spanning basically all body systems is well documented, with damage in situ across organs

French prime minister Sébastien Lecornu says several case contacts linked to the #hantavirus cruise ship outbreak have tried - unsuccessfully - to challenge the state's quarantine measures before the courts. His response?: "The precautionary principle over the risk of spread."

OMG that would be amazing. The WW levels are SO low I was honestly thinking "Maybe there will be zero this week". Alas, 6. Still.... soooooo much better than so many other weeks over the last 6 years!

I absolutely would not walk into a room after an Ebola patient left without a fit tested N95 on, the risk is far too high to do that
If you go in a room after patient left — w/out handling patient, disturbing contaminated materials, etc — there's no sustained airborne risk like with measles. Kikwit 1995 gave us extensive real-world transmission data on this and I cover it. infectiousdose.com/post/cont…

Just to be clear: i don’t agree with this choice by the WHO and im not arguing for it. Im simply adding a bit of history to the discussion to the many people on Twitter who were unaware this happened. Normalizing PPE outside of Ebola crises would reduce fear.

Hantavirus can be airborne; remember to wear an N95 mask when cleaning rodent droppings!
Colorado reports a 2nd #hantavirus case, this time in an Arapahoe County adult. The good news? It's not tied to the cruise ship outbreak. The even better news? The man is recovering and the variant, endemic to CO, does not spread person-to-person: denver7.com/lifestyle/health…

This genre of tweet is just tedious now. Always the same script: Fearful / Living in fear ✅ Mental health ✅ Let me break it down. I haven't been sick since 2019. I like not being sick. Wearing FFP2 dramatically reduces my chance of getting sick. Therefore I mask. The end.
Did some airplane travel this week- the number of people back to wearing masks over hantavirus and Ebola is truly shocking. I feel sad for the people who live their lives in fear over over-hyped, extremely rare diseases. People, so fearful that they can't go out in public or travel without masks... I pity them, I worry for their mental health, I even worry for our country that has so many guillible people - but these poor fools are not my enemy.

That's why my symptoms were subsided by taking Valtrex. Sadly, anti-virals alone didn't work. I am also on an immune modulator, still, the swelling kept returning. Autoimmunity might be driving the inflammation. My LDL and Liver enzymes were also elevated after my 2nd bout.

Journalists &health workers were murdered. They were easily identified because of their PPE. To be clear: i do not think the solution is to prevent health workers from using PPE. PPE should be seen as a sign you’re protecting yourself AND others. npr.org/2014/09/19/349756524…

I want to put this decision in historical context. Its 2014. Rural Guinea. Hundreds have died and health resources are nonexistent. You are trying to protect your loved ones. Strangers, Contact tracers in PPE show up asking about your movements. /1
The WHO forbids contact tracers from masking or gloving up. "Do not conduct home visits wearing personal protective equipment like masks, gloves, or gowns." It gets worse.

Husband: watching news cover of the Hantavirus outbreak: “Everyone seems to like public health a lot when they’re telling other people what to do. But everyone seems to hate public health when public health is trying to tell THEM what to do.”
